When we say "College" may I assume you mean an institution which as been approved by its respective state department of education to grant at least a baccalaureate degree?

For now, let's use a "liberal" definition of college and we can classify them later by accreditation, etc.

Can anyone help me with the city and state for the colleges listed above?

I just noticed that there are 100 Baptist institutions of higher learning listed above.

Can anyone help with the enrollment info as well (number of current students, number of alumna/e, etc.)

Also, Appalachian Bible College should be added. Bob Jones University should be removed as it is not a baptist school and does not claim to be.

Actually, BJU has claimed to be an independent Baptist institution as recently as about 8 years ago. It is not specifically advertised as one however.

It is self-professed "non-denominational", not "inter-denominational". Would like to see the ads if you could quote some or link some. Thanks.

It was said in a faculty in service training session on the accreditation issue given by the provost, probably from 91 or 92.

The official position is non denominational but that is a little like saying the US is a democracy. Neither one really are. The majority of BJU's support and students come from Baptist churches and the majority of the professors are of that persuasion. It is not as outspoken as we all might like it to be, but I would certainly include them as a baptistic school, and probably the most solid academically of the fundamental schools listed.

FTR, I believe Furman University officially severed ties with the SBC about 5 or so years ago. I am not sure that they still claim to be baptist.

Pastor Larry is correct about Furman. Same is true of Wake Forest, Mercer, and a couple of others. These schools are no longer Southern Baptist. They are Baptist in the sense that Brown, Yale, Harvard, and Princeton are Christian universities. That is, they can claim that in their heritage, but no longer can they claim that confessionally.

Mercer and Wake are still very intentionally baptist, just not Southern Baptist. Oddly enough, Mercer, whose seminary trains women to be senior pastors, is still subsidized by the Georgia Baptist Convention which opposes women in that role.

You are exactly right, these schools with the exception of Mercer have intentionally seperated themselves from the SBC. For this very reason, in my mind it strengthens their "Baptist" position because now they will not have to cowtow to hierarchial creeds placed upon them by trustees appointed by the fundamentalists currently in power.
Do you not find it interesting that almost every SBC School has sought to seperate itself from the SBC in the last 15 years? Of course Liberty and BJU have found a new home.... Sigh!!!

Every SBC school has not tried to distance itself from the conventions. This is simply untrue. Only a select few under the iron-grip of the liberal elite have tried to circumvent the will of the churches by doing this on their own. Of course, some schools lost their funding from the state conventions for espousing radically unScriptural theology.
While Liberty is now served by some SBC trustees, it is far from holding a Southern Baptist identity. If you will look at the facts, BJU is not Southern Baptist, nor do I ever suspect they ever would want to be. Please do a better job at being factual in your postings.

Which schools lost their funding for unscriptural theology? I believe if you check your facts you will not find any.

Quote from Jerry Falwell on his website.
"I could not be more pleased to have Liberty associated with the NEW Southern Baptist Convention" (a little more than a couple of trustees eh?) OK the Bob Jones reference was over the top sorry.

    Dietrich,
Wake Forest, for one, was one of the schools that lost funding due to unscriptural theology/practice (Openly espousing gay/lesbian marriage). At the heart of most of the others lies a theological problem.
Falwell's comments about the new SBC mean nothing (typical of most of his comments :D). As you probably know, no college gets national convention funding or has a formal national relationship. They get both from the local state conventions. And as far as I have been able to check, he gets no money from the Conservative convention in VA, nor the other convention in VA. So he was obviously not speaking of a formal relationship. If you will look at the SBC website, you will notice that Liberty is not listed as an affiliated school. Why? For the reasons listed above and the fact that Liberty elects its own trustees and has done so since its inception. This may all change with them, but for now, Liberty is not formally a SBC state convention school, nor are they committed to teaching SB distinctives at the present time.
Apology accepted on the BJU comment. IFBs are rolling in their graves and are frothing at the mouth even as we speak at the notion that BJU would ever be SBC. We SBC folks are just too liberal and heretical for them  ;)
