The only books with this title that I can find is here" The Soul Winner: Charles Spurgeon: 9781461033394: Amazon.com: Books

I would be surprised to learn that Spurgeon believes that God is not the ultimate soul winner. In fact I would be surprised to learn that Rice ever said such a thing either. Can you give a clear confirmation on the author and the page number so we can see this ourselves?

That is not what is in the op. What you said in the op and what John said is the following:

John correct that to say that his grandfather did not write a book called "The Soul Winner" as you stated he did.

John R. Rice believed and taught and preached that we are in a partnership with God. What the OP is missing entirely is that we must have God's power or nothing will happen. Evangelism is useless in our own strength. We go out to win souls, but we cannot do it without God's power, and He is the One who actually saves the soul. Here are statements from John R. Rice to the effect that it is God who saves souls, from the book The Soul-Winner's Fire, probably the one referred to in the OP:

"Every Christian who is willing to do it in God's way and in God's power may have the marvelous privilege of winning souls" (p. iv).

About Ps. 126: "The heathen were impressed with the marvelous deliverance which God gave His people. Real, Heaven-sent revivals are like that. Outsiders know when God has visited His people. A great moving of repentance among the people of God, of tears, or restitution and reformation, times of joy and blessing and reconciliation, make a profound impression upon a community round about" (p. 23).

"We must realize that soul winning is not done in human power and human wisdom. it takes the power of the Holy Spirit to convict and to convert a sinner" (p. 27).

"Unless there is a supernatural change of heart, a regeneration, a new birth, the sinner is still a lost sinner, a rejecter of Christ, a rebel against God, justly condemned and Hell-bound. Admit it now, dear soul winner, you must have heavenly help in this business of saving sinners" (p. 37).

There are many similar statements in this and JRR's other books, which the writer of the OP could have found if he tried, and thus avoided the false accusation of the OP.

Do you do it? Jesus said "I will make you fishers of men." How many fish have you caught? How many have you brought to your church to be baptized? How many have you taught to be disciples of Christ and to win others?

Soul winning/discipleship is more than just talk. A fisherman who never catches a fish is probably not much of a fisherman, is he? Maybe he should try some different "bait."

No you didn't. You said JRR's book was "The Soul Winner." That was Spurgeon's book. JRR's book is "The Soul Winner's Fire."

The Holy Spirit takes the scriptures and uses them to wake up the lost sinner, to convict them of thoer own sinfullness, and need to get saved, and that Jesus is the only way to get saved!
Where this gets tricky is that he honors the word of God , and uses that to save souls by His working to enable sinners to wake up and respond to Jesus, but because he honors the word, so while God desires us to be walking with Him and being obedient to Him, he will always honor the scriptures!

This could have been an enlightening thread. But a whole lot of posts seem directed toward nit-picking.

First, the fake theology folks claim believers cannot effectively engage in "soul winning" ministry" because unless a person has been altered by "irresistible grace" they are unable to understand any spiritual thing of God.

On the other hand, the one based on scripture, we plant, we water, and God causes the increase. According to fake theology everyone is conceived as if they were like the first soil of Matthew 13, unable to grasp even the milk of the gospel. But that is not how scripture read.

So rather than discuss the ministry of Christ which is the duty of every believer after being born anew, how we can help win some by our godly lives and words, our discussion is deflected and derailed.

Yes no one comes to God, which means no one is chosen and transferred into Christ, unless drawn by God, and as pointed out beautifully by others, this drawing refers to the persuading influence of people sharing the gospel of Christ, not the fake theology of being compelled (dragged) by irresistible grace.

In summary, soul winning is our job and the fields are white for harvest, total spiritual inability is fake theology.

God commands us to take the Gospel message to all sinners, as only God knows whom the elect to get saved by it will be, so given freely to all!
