Universal Atonement or Unlimited Atonement

Donald K. McKim's Westminster Dictionary of Theological Terms defines both Universal and Unlimited atonement as, "The view that the atoning death of Jesus Christ was intended for the whole world without regard to whether or not one is "elect."

(McKim, p. 20)

 

It is my firm belief that Christ died for everyone, in so much that his death and resurrection covered ALL mankind... If it didn't then how are ALL men resurrected?... I'm not saying that his precious blood was shed for ALL mankind, only his elect... The righteous and the wicked WILL be raised because of the resurrection of Christ... 1 Corinthians 15:20 But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.

15:21 For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead.

15:22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.

15:23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
