    A couple of things.

First, he’s in uniform and obviously has a conflict of interest. He should have never come to the scene.

Second, he’s employed by the Syracuse police Dept. The officers investigating were Sheriff's Deputies. The accident was probably out of the city limits, which means he had no jurisdiction to be there. He was essentially acting as a private citizen, despite being in uniform

So, the question is… what exactly what did he do? If he gave her legal advice to not volunteer a breath test, or blood test and advised her to go to the hospital (she was in an accident), I don’t see how he did anything wrong, other than leaving his jurisdiction to check on his sister that had been in an accident.

    peace to you

You are correct - the officer in question went outside of the city limits (evidently without permission) as the violation happened in a town of Salina. I checked a map - and the location of the arrest is about 11 miles from the city limits.
Normally, the Sheriffs dept will not patrol the City of Syracuse. The Town of Salina does not have a police dept, thus the Sheriff dept has full jurisdiction.
In addition, the ambulance driver is also under investigation. The ambulance is from a private company and they do respond to anywhere in the county. (Syracuse and Salina are both in the county of Onondaga)

Will try to keep you posted.

Unbelievable! 99.9% of LEO are excellent in their jobs. Unfortunately -there are always those few that make all cops look bad.

Many years ago, the Sheriff of our country was having a fling with a young woman in her 20’s (he was in his mid 60’s) that was well known.

She had an accident in town. While our officers were investigating, the Sheriff drove up, jumped out of the SUV, yelled “I’m taking over this investigation”, put his girlfriend in his vehicle and drove off.

Our Sergeant contacted the prosecuting attorney and they got a warrant for a blood sample. The Sheriff brought her to the hospital where he threatened to give the sergeant a ticket for not using a turn signal in the parking lot and also threatened to revoke all city police officers of their licenses to carry firearms.

She got off the DWI by claiming she had drank wine after the accident to calm her nerves. The Sheriff was forced to resign within a couple of months as he was under investigation, I think by the Highway Patrol, over the incident.

I guess Will Smith isn’t the only one that dies stupid things for love

    peace to you

A little bit of info on the news this am -
The officer in question evidently told his sister NOT to take the BAC test - then evidently the ambulance driver gave her an IV - to lower the BAC.

As I mentioned before - the location was at least 11 miles from the city limits. I am not sure where the officer was at the time his sister called him.

(note: town of Salinia is due west of Syracuse. Based on his location, he could have made it in about:
12 Minutes from the North side of town
19 minutes from the East side of town
17 minutes from the South side of Town
12 minutes from the West end of town.

Note - these times were based being very close to the interstate entrance
It could have taken a bit longer if they farther away from the entrance. The exit was very clcose to the interstate.
