    I just realized something...

For the first time since I have been on BB, there was not a thread concerning the day Christ died.

Every year before, someone has always asked, "On what day was Jesus crucified?" But not this year...

Does this mean that come halloween we won't have the usual threads about how it is Satan's birthday...

Or at Christmas the usual threads...

Have we turned a new corner for BB?

I did ask, actually, but no one answered me.

    Jesus Died on Wednesday.
He started His Resurrection 72 hours later.
Jesus was born 25 Dec 01BC.

Let's take halloween back from Satan
Let's take our streets back from Drug Lords & gangs.
Let's take our TVs back so we can watch Ron Parsly
    (and old Oral Roberts reruns).

    Or is that 'Rod' Parsley?

His 6th catching team won the TV sweep-stakes
for Catching teams in 1998 - you know, the
awards for faith healers & helpers.

    Gotta keep things lively!

Besides that I am a Baptist and we hate change... so I am now used to seeing all those predictable seasonal threads....

Sorry, the numbers just don't add up to this, nor fit all the criteria. The crucifixion was on 'Thursday'.

Besides, if the crucifixon was on Wednesday, the Lord had to travel more than a Sabbath day's journey from Bethany, to enter Jerusalem and present himself as the King, on the Sabbath, as well. And the Emmaus disciples would have been mistaken as to when the crucifixion occurred, for late in the afternoon of the "first day of the week", they announced that this was "the third day since these things occurred", and the statements made clearly refer to the events of the crucifixion of the Lord.

Had that occured on our Wednesday, by your reckoning, which would have been the fourth day of the week, "the third day since..." the events would have been our Saturday or the regular Jewish Sabbath, which day the Lord was clearly in the tomb. Or else that would have been "the fourth day since" (BTW, these verses also rules out a Friday crucifixion, as well.) 'Our Lord, who went to Sheol/Hades, after the dismissal of His Spirit to the Father, (not when the body was entombed at just before 'sundown') would have then also had to arisen on the Sabbath, about three hours before it ended, which again clearly did not happen.

Matt. 28:1 says literally "when the Sabbaths were ended", (signifying more than one) and there were two that week, one "an High Day", something that was never said about the regular weekly Sabbath, which was 15 Nisan/Abib, the first day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread", and the second Nisan 16, the regular weekly Sabbath. The 'Passover Lamb' must be killed on the 14th, "between the evenings", which was called a feast day, but not an "holy convocation" just as was the "Day of Firstfruits", normally 16 Nisan, but stated to be "the morrow after the Sabbath" and which 'moved' when the two Sabbaths fell "back-to-back" to Nisan 17. That was the morning of the resurrection, or the first day of the week. And FTR, Jesus did not 'start' his resurrection, but rose again, and that instantaneously, IMO.

Verses on request, but I have not the time, nor do I feel well enough to compose them this evening, being tired these days, and having to do a bit more than I really feel like as my nephew who is 26 1/2 years my junior at 32, has hurt his back last week, and is having to take it easy for a few more days, so I'm having to do the feeding of the cattle [it has been 20(s)* F here for four straight mornings, and we set some records for cold temperatures this AM], even while still rather 'wiped out' from Chemo. But I am getting stronger, seemingly. At least it seems to be going pretty well, as far as I and the doctors can tell.

    To Both Ed's

Well, I have to disagree with both of you. The key to understanding when Christ died is in understanding the Jewish understanding of the concept of day. Basically, if a day was referred to in any part then it was considered a whole day as well as the definition of when the day ended and began. Evidently there were two customs in Israel, one that started at sunrise and went to sunrise and another that started at sunset and ended at sunset.

Long story short, it is possible for Christ to be crucified on Friday and arise on Sunday and be in the tomb for three days in the Jewish understanding which superceeds our own understanding.

    Let the debate begin.

Or does it count if the debate starts when Easter is almost over? :D

When I have sufficiently contemplated WHY He died, then maybe I'll get around to worrying about when He died.

Sunday morning could have started any time after sunset Saturday evening. Jshurley has gotten this right, IMO. Jesus died on Friday, and depending on which time system the reader understood, Friday could have been considered the better part of 2 days in itself, leaving Saturday as day 3.
