I think it was one of the Rockefellers who sad, "A billion is not what it used to be."
Fifty years later it seems that a trillion is not what it used to be.

Fifty years ago (1973) 1 billion dollars would now be the same as $6,915,000,000 in 2023
    Check this link:

    In simple terms - $ 100.00 in 1973 would equal $ 691.50 in 2023
    ............................$ 307.20 in 1973 would equal $2,124.29 in 2023

    Day 1- the Army $307.20 in 1973 -.... and now s $1,720.30
Note: after 4 months - that E-1 pay would be: $1,917.60 in 2023
after about another 2 months -his pay would be $2,149.20 in 2023

Military amounts listed above are monthly pay.
The amounts listed are for basic pay only.
Keep in mind that a GI does not have any expenses while living in the barracks,
he eats free in the mess hall, has total free medical care.

A Married GI does receive a housing allowance (starting at about $1,000 per month) and also is provided a Ration allowance of : $452.56

In addition, Housing allowance and Rations are Tax free which equals at least a saving of about $150 per month
