I've been getting notices every few days that they will no longer be free after the first of the year, 15th I think it was. Maybe they are doing it in stages with their customers or something???

It'll still be free, there's just a new version coming.

Something like 7.0 is expiring, to be replaced with 7.1.

(Read the very bottom of the notice.)

Grisoft is discontinuing its current version of AVG. But it is issuing a new free version (7.5.430a848).

Contrary to the rumors, AVG Free will remain free. Here's a link for the latest version:
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/AVG_Free_Edition_d886.html

Personally, I don't much care for AVG. It will tell you that you have a virus, but it's pretty much useless for getting rid of it.

    I use CA AntiVirus:

Ex, I think it's a marketing tactic; the details, which most people don't read, tell you how to get the free version. They don't want you to use the free version, because they don't make any money that way.

I've been using the CA Suite, I guess. AV, Pest patrol, & Firewall...but the firewall is the same version ya get from ZoneAlarm...cep ya pay for it. The only reason I'm using it is it comes as part of the RoadRunner pkg. It seems to work good, espically the PestPatrol.

Check your Sunday newspapers for special deals that are offered at this time.

I picked up a version of McAfee VirusScan Plus 2007 for $5 at OfficeMax a short while back.

As Trotter said, "It [AVG Free] will tell you that you have a virus, but it's pretty much useless for getting rid of it." :tonofbricks:

    @ preacher,

The firewall is ZoneAlarm. It's a rebranded version of ZoneAlarm Pro.

And, for anyone who gets the ZoneAlarm With AntiVirus, CA is the antivirus it uses.
