Just say Bruce Almighty last night (I know, I'm SO behind.) I thought for the most part, that it had several good things to say. I was a little miffed at the idea presented at the end that "God helps those who help themselves" (clearly not a Biblical idea). And the decision to leave Jesus Christ out of the picture completely seemed a little deliberate to me. I would say it was worth seeing, if for no other reason than to give you a point of reference to discuss the sovereignty of God with someone who had seen the movie and was an unbeliever. Just my humble opinion. [IMG] Any other thoughts?

I have not seen the movie. I know several people who've seen it. Before seeing it, some were pro- and some were anti-. After seeing it, all of them recommended as appropriate for Christian viewing.

BTW - the view "God helps those who help themselves" is probably a good topic to start a separate thread on. It's biblical support is often debated amongst believers. Personally, I do think there's some biblical truth to it (God giving us the power to solve our own problems, rather than us expecting God to solve them for us). And as far as the absence of Jesus, it doesn't bother me too much since that doesn't appear to be the focus of the story. Many of us watched Touched by an Angel for years, and Jesus was rarely mentioned. Not because he was purposefully omitted, but because the scope of the show was the love of the Father for us, his children (even the least of us) which is totally biblical.

I look forward to seeing Bruce Almighty soon.

I had some reservations, but I saw it and loved it.

There are a few curse words to watch out for, and early in the movie there was some open hostility towards God from the main character that was a little uncomfortable to watch. But God works on him. [IMG] The overall message: wow. I don't want to spoil anything, but at one point near the end of the film he falls on his knees and shouts "God, I surrender my life to your will!!!" which was VERY powerful, and I was extremely surprised this film came from Hollywood, let alone Jim Carrey.

And on top of everything, it was a *very* funny movie. Hilarious. I usually don't laugh during movies, but this was an exception. [IMG]
