    I was a morse systems operator and airborne morse systems operator in the Air Force. Are there any other BB members who were in cryptologic intelligence?

    Not me, but my dad was in WWII. According to his army discharge papers which I found recently:

    He was a Tec 5 Radio Intercept Intelligence 799

    And then a

    Tec 4 Radio Operator 766

    I don't know exactly what these designations mean. Anyone?

    Says he could receive Morse code at 30 wpm and send at 25 wpm and was knowledgeable in German and Japanese code.

    For the technician grades, tech 5 was roughly equivalent to corporal, tech 4 to sergeant.

    For the MOS numbers:

    799 Intercept Operator, Fixed Station, {communications}

    766 Radio Operator, High Speed, Manual, {communications}

    I was. Data processing of classified information (IT and Intel).

    An addendum. In my day classified inormation was not supposed to be machine processed but it did happen.

    Also Executive officers would stand by to declassify sensitive data, order it machine processed (keypunch, collate read update), then print it out on the proper paper and elevate it back to confidential, secret, top secret, crypto, whatever.

    My best friend in the Air Force was a Crypto tech and I was a Radio/Nav systems guy. We had a piece of secure equipment called the KY28 that hooked up to the comm systems.

    I spent 4 years copying dits and dahs, both on the ground and in the air. That type of work does something to a man.
