You and Austin have it correct as you read the whole passage, not just a few words.
Vs.17-23 show and explain how the works show an obedience or a disobedience based on new birth or absence of it.
For any to suggest people are saved by doing good is to not grasp the grace aspect of the gospel.Divorced from New birth it is a false gospel of works.

25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
I know some would say this is teaching a works doctrine... And they are right the works of God, working the heart of man, the work God performed... Alone... Question... How can a unregenerate, natural, man perform the attribute of God?... He can't!... Only a changed man can!... Brother Glen:)
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.
4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. -
Would anyone want to reply?:
By Paul's standard, have you fulfilled the law?
....and YES! I have fulfilled the law by Paul's standard. -
Those who go around sucking on lemons and doing these works legalistically are devoid of love being their motive. -
Here's my present understanding. I have Christ's (God's) imputed righteousness. And all the rewards this includes. But in thanksgiving, I seek a Holy Lifestyle in thought and deed. Knowing that my own works are inferior but atoned for in Christ, and made acceptable by Him.

Upon further reflection on the passage, I’m beginning to think the assertion in 2:15-17 (concerning the rendering of eternal life) is what a Jewish person would think about the relationship between works of the law and judgement which is different from Paul’s conclusion found in Chapter 3.
In verses 2:1 and 2:3, Paul uses the phrase “O’ Man” which is a rhetorical device used to set up the following questions/statements. You see the condemnation of hypocritical beliefs verses actions; of trusting circumcision or condemning Gentiles for not being Jewish.
It is here this comment concerning rendering to each man according to his works, concerning his conscience and so on is found.
Paul may be stating what was the common belief among the Jewish community at the time.
peace to you -
I see no benefit to anonymously going on a public forum and claiming certain levels of godliness and comparing myself to others.

IMO if you're not a fulfiller of the law by Paul's standard.....well, something very wrong there, suffice it to say....
I figured you wouldn't own up to it because being a 'fulfiller of the law' (loving your neighbor) would be synonymous with being a 'doer of the law', and you're never going to admit to something as SIMPLE as that. -
I’m not going to let you make this OP about me.
I’m done
Thanks for the conversation
peace to you -

My post should not be offensive to anyone holding the biblical relationship between saving faith, and works of faith. Why are you so touchy on this question? -

We have enough good posts in the bank to not fully agree on things.
We are both stubborn
I think I misread your posts some times:Sick
1pet4:8
I would rather you post your verses and stick to them, then just tweet ideas with no biblical support.
You know I do not have thin skin and by all means continue to offer biblical correction if you see me drift at all;) -

You think "every heavenly born child of God is by nature a doer" of every single point of the law?
I wish. -
8 Owe no man anything, save to love one another: for he that loveth his neighbor hath fulfilled the law.
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not covet, and if there be any other commandment, it is summed up in this word, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: love therefore is the fulfilment of the law. Ro 13 -
