    Jamie--

You missed my point entirely!! I didn't say the ABUSE of drugs ANYWHERE in my posts--I believe I said the PROLIFERATION of new drugs for every new "disorder" in the DSM is fooling a gulible public. There are tons of articles of how the pharmaceutical industry controls the doctors to prescribe these "new" drugs---and I'm not talking about drugs people take for PHYSICAL problems---I'm talking about the 364 MENTAL "disorders" in the DSM which supposedly need a pill---"A pill for every ill"--even if it hasn't been proven.

    MPD is a fallacy, BTW.

I think another poster had the best idea. Let's see what Tom Cruise thinks.

After all Tom was almost arrested for buzzing the base I work on shortly after 9/11 only to be rescued when his plane landed by the Scientologists who own a large Narcanon facility they bought from the state just a few miles north of my home. They recently just bought the ex-Holiday Inn in town.

Yeah, let's go with narcanon and get all these people off drugs the old fashioned way. Lock them up in rooms until they stop screaming. If they break loose send out your private investigator goon squad to round them up and lock them back up for more detox.

    Yeah, that's the ticket.

No, YOU Missed the point. I said I would ONLY AGREE with you if you were talking about Abuse of drugs. I do not, and will not agree with you on the proliferation of new drugs.

Of course you're not talking about those drugs.. They are the ones you're taking. How can you knock something you need... Only knock the things you don't need without knowing how much they really HELP the people that DO need them.

What I can't understand is why you think it's ok to knock the drugs you are lucky NOT to need and knock the people that need them. Do you think the drug companies would spend millions to develop a drug and market it if they didn't think it would be needed?

I'm the one who started this thread and YOU have missed the point of the thread. I didn't ask you to AGREE with me, I am simply stating some facts about the connection between the pharmaceutical industry and doctors prescribing drugs for all the "new" MENTAL" disorders (364 of them) which are listed in the DSM. Whether you agree with me or not is not the issue.

I'm not knocking the drugs--I'm speaking against the proliferation of the "new" drugs that are manufactured for every "new" MENTAL disorder listed in the DSM and the conncetion between the pharmaceutical industry and the APA--I have heard that if every single person in the United States were analyzed by a psychotherapist, ALL would have some sort of "chemical imbalance" and need drugs to "balance" them out.

I believe the pharmaceutical industry is ripping off the American people--big time--and the millions that are spent to develop a drug are YOUR tax dollars. In most instances, pharmaceutical companies develop these drugs because the doctors say we need them---they are looking at the prof$ts they receive from the sale of these drugs. Sales of these pharmaceuticals produce big bucks---we get poorer and these guys reap the prof$ts!! It has NOTHING to do with need.

I see that your mind is made up. You only wanted to post non-valid information and flame a group without the need for dicussion.

It seems to be a pattern...

Please continue to flame away at the drug lords... I mean pharmaceutical industry, the VERY pharmaceutical industry that made your 7-8 pills you take each day to make your life better.

Keep knocking the industry that helps many many people in this world.

Is there any fraud in this industry, yes, in ever industry I would guess, but does that give you the right to flame away at something you have no clue. In my opinion no.

I tried to turn to you and join you partially by saying that the ABUSE of drugs has gotten out of hand, but you will have nothing to do with that, you only want to state your point over and over again and run.

I am done with this thread....

    LadyEagle,

Thank you for posting those links. The public needs to be aware that this is not something that one or two people made up because they are against prescription pills when it comes to mental instability.

The fact that the DSM-IV has somehow stumbled on more than 250 supposed disorders since they first came out with the book should throw up red flags with any child of God.

Take a pill for anything that is troubling your mind? Not according to the Bible. We are commanded to be anxious for nothing, but in everything let our prayers and supplications be known to the Lord. Are we trusting God? or man?

These companies are getting rich with money from drugs that the child of God should not be relying on.

    Jamie--

Why are you posting here if you are done with this thread?

BTW--pharmaceutical companies "create" drugs just like the the APA (American Psychiatric Association) "creates" mental disorders for the DSM!!

No, I am sure they are not against prescription drugs.. If it's ones that they need each day. They are only against what they perceive to believe. That the drug companies are randomly creating diseases for the sole purpose to make money..

What, do you think they had discovered ALL the diseases when the DSM-IV was first published? I mean, why didn't they find out about all the things before they published their first book. How rude.. Can't they get it right the FIRST time?!?

I on the other hand am thankful that they continue to do research and continue to make people's lives better.

So you don't take any medicine? You allow God to handle anything that may come up without the need for drugs of any kind?

This is the only thing we can agree on. I do believe they over charge, and play the politics game with their lobbist, but it's a free country so until some stands up and says, enough is enough, they will continue to over charge.

Also, like I mentioned to your wife before. I can agree that there is abuse of drugs. People do tend to take medicine for the littlest of nothing now, but that doesn't mean that the DSM-IV isn't a valid source of information on disorders and the drugs that will help.

    POLL:
Of the people that think the pharmaceutical companies are out to get us, and agree with this thread, please, if you don't mind, list any and all drugs you have taken or are currently taking, or drugs that were prescribed, but you decided not to take because you didn't agree with Doctor.

If you're going to take a stand, please share with the rest of us what you're taking, or not taking, and how you manage without the drugs you decided not to take.

I have a new one for the DSM-IV...

    BVBS Disorder

The BVBS stands for 'Broken Venetian Blind String' Disorder.

Let's see how long before this becomes a reality and some quack pharmaceutical company gives someone a pill instead of telling them to go out and buy a new Venetian Blind.
