If AI could be used to enhance our education, such that people would not embrace obvious false premises, it would be a good thing. People who are afraid of the future are a dime a dozen. In years past, people denied that the earth or the Sun was not the center of the Universe. Today, we have about 30% of people unable to accept that for most people, the COVID Vaccine is a good thing. And then of course we have the KJVO and Calvinists...

One common view is that the JW bible translates the same word differently, in order to alter the text such that it agrees with their doctrine. However, these same people, cannot see how their doctrines also require the same word to be translated differently so it means one thing here, but something near the opposite over there. "All means "everything imaginable here" but over there it just refers to a subset of the entity, i.e. all knowing means everything imaginable, but all men only refers to all kinds of men.

AI would scuttle such obvious malfeasance, and require consistent meanings of words such as to preserve the intended message.

My primary job is Software Engineer and he's right. When you build a program, it is guaranteed to have tons of bugs that you can't even fathom.

2 months down the road, the program hits an exception and blows up. When AI hits that bug, what is it going to do? Will an AI farm tractor programmed to till ground accidentally try to till humans? Will an AI aircraft throw an exception and think that up is down? These are just normal hiccups.

The real problem is that every single tech item can be hacked. If a hacker hacks an AI robot in the Whitehouse and changes the codebase from "serving food" to "stabbing with a knife" what's going to happen? Hack into a plane and tell the AI to lock out manual intervention and crash into a building. Bad stuff.

I can code in anything from JavaScript to Python to COBOL and JCL, and all this new tech is scary enough that I have a flip phone ;).

Big Tech Financial Giants have created algorithms that know when to buy and sell stock based on real time consumption of news and always beat average Joe to the buy or sell. What impact does that have?

AI's reality would be skewed as it doesn't have the bedrock foundation of God's Word and God's moral code written on the hearts of men (Natural Law). The calculation it would use to arrive at its conclusion would always be wrong, even if it winds up at what we would term the "right" answer most of the time.

Not only that, but any AI will be created with its creator's biases. There is no clean slate. You do not want Jeff Bezos ilk deciding what is good and moral.

Giving a computer computing power is not dangerous; however, giving a computer decision making power is. This has been true from the beginning.

Intelligence does not equal wisdom, though human nature tends to imagine it does. “Trust the science” is one of the most inane mantras of modern times.

LOL. That can be a problem, especially with "native" speakers, who seem to have great trouble understanding English as well. :Wink

But the punomaniac’s joke was simply a play on AI, from the familiar song "Cielito Lindo," whose refrain is

    Ay, ay, ay, ay,
    Canta y no llores,
    Porque cantando se alegran,
    Cielito lindo, los corazones.

"Cielito Lindo" is a popular traditional song of Mexico, written in 1882 by Quirino Mendoza y Cortés (c. 1859–1957).

Pure fiction, without a shred of logic or reason. As long as the algorithms used reflect reality, i.e. the judgments are confirmed with evidence, the programs would work just fine.

What reality? The reality where God is the supreme ruler of the Universe, or the reality where the Fittest Survive?

You're coding an AI to drive a car. The car finds itself in a situation where it cannot brake in time. It must choose to hit 2 pregnant women walking, or the elderly couple walking on the sidewalk.

Do the children in the womb of the pregnant women count as humans for the AI? Did Jeff Bezos code the AI where the children are simply just a fetus made of "masses of cells" or did a Christian code it where each pregnant woman is calculated as also having a child? How do we assign weights of value in society to wise elderly vs pregnant women with unborn children?

Let's do another experiment. The AI is driving your car to take you to the ER. Your wife in the backseat is hemorrhaging blood and likely will not make it, but if you speed you can possibly save the child. How does the AI determine whether to speed or not? Should you endanger others to save a child? Should the AI even have the ability to speed?

An AI plane has engine failure. It will crash. It can crash into a daycare or high school. How will it know what to pick?

Yes, a "value system", "Natural Law", is going to be missing from AI. To say that it isn't, and that it won't have an impact, is to say that us humans can create beings just as God can, which is the height of folly. "Programs" cannot function in the real world, that's why us software engineers are on-call 24/7.

I am sorry Sir, but digital controllers have been around for more than 30 years. They break but do not go berserk. Technological Displacement is a constant of human life. The ice man came and went. Lets take your "the plane is going to crash" story. The reality is before "ground approach warning" annunciation was put into planes, lots more of them crashed.

People used to pump my gas, and wash my windows... Soon, the folks who used to change my oil will be gone when electrics come to fruition. Seize the day, do not live in the past...

    Espanish:

    Cielito lindo
    De la Sierra Morena,
    Cielito lindo, vienen bajando,
    Un par de ojitos negros,
    Cielito lindo, de contrabando.

    Ay, ay, ay, ay,
    Canta y no llores,
    Porque cantando se alegran,
    Cielito lindo, los corazones.

    Pájaro que abandona,
    Cielito lindo, su primer nido,
    Si lo encuentra ocupado,
    Cielito lindo, bien merecido.

Mexican Folk - Cielito lindo lyrics + English translation

    Eh in glee ish

    Heavenly One
    Versions: #1#2#3
    Through dark tresses, heavenly one,
a pair of deep brown eyes,
    lower as they approach,
    a stolen glance.

    Ay, ay, ay, ay,
    sing and don't cry,
    heavenly one, for singing
    gladdens hearts.

    A bird that abandons
    his first nest, heavenly one,
then finds it occupied by another,
    deserves to lose it.

    That beauty mark you have
next to your mouth, heavenly one,
don't share with anyone but me
    who appreciates it.

If your little mouth, my dark girl,
    were made of sugar,
    I would spend my time
    enjoying its sweetness.

    From your house to mine
there is no more than a step.
    Before your mother comes,
heavenly one, give me a hug.

    Cupid shot off an arrow,
    heavenly one,
    And though he was playing,
    I was wounded

Thanks but I prefer the West Side Story Musial ( sung in English of course ) :Smile

    Puerto Rico, my heart's devotion,
Let it sink back in the ocean,
    Always the hurricanes blowing,
    Always the population growing
    And the money owing,
    And the sunlight streaming,
    And the natives steaming
I like the island Manhattan, (I know you do)
    Smoke on your pipe,
    And put that in
I like to be in America,
    Okay by me in America,
    Everything free in America
For a small fee in America
Buying on credit is so nice,
One look at us, and they charge twice
I have my own washing machine,
What will you have, though, to keep clean?
    Skyscrapers bloom in America,
    Cadillacs zoom in America,
    Industry boom in America,
Twelve in a room in America
Lots of new housing with more space,
Lots of doors slamming in our face
    I'll get a terrace apartment,
Better get rid of your accent
Life can be bright in America,
If you can fight in America
    is all right in America,
    If you're all-white in America
    La, la, la America
    America
    La, la, la America
    America
Here you are free and you have pride,
Long as you stay on your own side
Free to be anything you choose,
Free to wait tables and shine shoes
    Everywhere grime in America,
    Organised crime in America,
    Terrible time in America,
    You forget I'm in America
I think I go back to San Juan,
I know a boat you can get on,
    Bye bye
And everyone there will give big cheer,
Everyone there would have moved here

Unfortunately, this dramatically illustrates the problem with AI. AI can be used to determine the best probable course, given certain parameters. It is precisely those parameters that are at issue. Whence those parameters? From fallible humans, of course. AI should never be given carte blanche, as it would be granting dictatorial power to the fallible humans who initiate it.

The problem with AI is not AI, but the inane mentality that imagines computers can be infallible. Anyone advocating that AI be given ultimate decision making power is either grossly ignorant of the limitations of computing* or is intent on its nefarious use.

*For example, "GIGO—Garbage In, Garbage Out." Also, "To err is human, but to really foul things up you need a computer," (Paul Ehrlich).

"Never trust a computer you cannot throw out a window." —Steve Wozniak

"A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing." —Emo Philips

    Paul R. Ehrlich Quotes

Those latter two tongue-in-cheek quotes highlight the problem. Making the computer impossible to override, either by design or consensus, is a recipe for disaster.
