Evidence For Christianity

One Sunday Dr. D. L. Lowrie preached a sermon on evidence that Christianity is true.

People who went into it expecting a lot of time spent on "ancient manuscripts," and "archeology" were probably disappointed. Though he touched on those very, very briefly, the main point of his sermon was much closer to home.

    1) Ancient Eye Witness Testimony:

Think about this a moment - It was not safe or popular to be a Christian in those first days after the Lord went to the cross. Jews who followed Christ risked becoming social out-casts, their families might shun them, they might lose their methods of income, they might be stoned or cruxcified. It was NOT safe to go around saying, "He is the Messiah," after He died on the cross unless He really was raised from the dead.

We aren't talking about a city like New York either, where you had no idea who was around and who wasn't. If someone said, "You know, He IS alive," you were there, you could check it out yourself.

Compare it to modern day false prophets. You see too many people today following the likes of Jim Jones or David Koresh? They stayed dead and their people stopped following them.

Christ was raised, and His followers were faithful.

    2) The effect He had on the world.

Even non-belivers do not deny the effect Christ had on the world. He changed it forever. No figure in the History of the World changed the world like Christ changed it.

There are those who like to say, "Well, Jesus is just a nice fairy tale." Do fairy tales change the world? Do Romans and Communists try to destroy people who follow "fairy tales"?

There are those who like to say, "Well, sure, Jesus was a nice guy, but that's all." History is full of "nice guys," but they didn't change the entire world.

    3) Modern Eye Witness Testimony -

Every single Christian living today is an eye-witness to Jesus Christ. We stand here and proclaim to the world, "He is NOT a myth, He is NOT a joke, He is NOT a fairy tale, He IS a living Lord. He walks with me. He talks with me. He is a risen savior and He IS in the world today." They are so blind by their lack of faith they ignore us. They do not listen to us.

But all over the world the eye witnesses for Christ are still testifying.

He is STILL changing the world.

Witnesses are still willing to die for the TRUTH.

WE are the evidence He is alive.
WE are the "sign" the evil and adulterous world seeks.

BenW is right. The Case for Christ is an awesome book. So is The Case for Faith. Christians do not believe blindly.
