I thought in light of the thread where a man of God who does more for the Lord than probably most of the active members of BB do in a days time, I'd start this topic to get a more realistic view of the posters on the subject of Judgement or Mercy, which do you prefer?
Judgement, as long as you are not on the receiving end?
Mercy, as long as you are on the receiving end?
Or would you rather have things the other way around?
What does it take to avoid judgement, anmd what does it take to receive mercy?
I mean this is the right section to discuss a "fundamental" belief, right?

Judge the action; have mercy on the person.

But what if the action was fully intended as good and you sit at the wrong angle of view to see it?
Would that same action need mercy due to an improper evaluation?
If I'm not careful, I'll judge actions that seem to be to my hurt, but actually were meant for my good. Now wouldn;t that be a misnomer?
I would rather have righteous judgement, undeserving mercy and be held responsible for my actions, that would incite me to make sure to have the right actions. But if I learn to expect mercy every time I commit the wrong actions,I become a glutton of mercy.
So judgement might well be preferred, mercy the benefit for wrong, not the privilege, especially as some seem to expect. -
As a recovering Pharisee, I excel at judging others. Mercy is up to God, but I trust He will give it only to people like me who truly deserve it.
(Now, can you see why I'm "recovering"?) -
Dr. Bob, your desire to be tactically honest about yourself makes you strong to me. It keeps you prominent in my mind. It makes anything you say, worthy of my attention.

Never heard of a "recovering Pharisee", but I've read about a converted one in the Book of Acts: Saul/ Paul. :eek:

I think Micah 6:8 speaks to the original question quite well. If we all desired Justice, Mercy, and Humility, we would all be better off.

True. All too often we desire mercy for ourselves, but are willing to judge others for the same things we want mercy for.
