For a little variety today, my sweet wife and I did a ten-mile bicycle ride. We usually walk for 30 to 60 minutes in the neighborhood each day. Sometimes it is hard to put those walking shoes on and get out the door. But I find that once I get out there, I do enjoy it. It makes me feel good physically and mentally.
Walking is the most popular form of physical activity. Whether it be for fitness, weight loss, or relaxation, walking is fun and free! It's a great opportunity to get outside and enjoy God's creation--on foot! Walking is so simple--you don't need a big pile of specialized sports equipment! One block, two, then three--you can gradually work your way up to one mile, two, then three!
We have a big, framed poster on the wall near our back door. The printing on it reads: "Presenting Two Powerful Weapons In The Fight Against Heart Disease". Beneath the caption there is a picture of a pair of walking shoes. --Jed

I lost 2 more pounds. I was at a plateau for a while, so I'm glad I'm loosing again now.
Jed, I'm a diabetic and can't eat much carbs. I too try to make everything and eat a little high carb and processed foods as possible. But I have a limited budget too so sometimes it is hard. I can't afford as many fresh fruit and vegetables as I would like. -
Well, I'm back from PA and none too worse for wear. I did not drink as much water as I like and I did have an encounter with a banana split that I will not soon forget ;) but I did not add any weight, however I also did not break the 200 lb mark by the end of the month as was my goal
We had a wonderful time in PA, the weather was wonderful and family was entertaining! -
Congratulations, donnA, and you too g220(so ya have another month to break that 200)! I've lost another pound and am still walking...it's now a way of life, I s'pose.
-
Thanks! And congrat's on the steadfestness in walking! The weather has broken here in the last couple of days and it has been in the low 70's in the evening. My wife has convinced me to go along on walks with her and it hasn't cost her a thing ;) Actually, I love walking with her, but when it is very hot and humid all I think about is getting back to the house.

I've tried to talk my mister into walking with me, mainly to "protect" me from all the varmints out there, but he sez he don't have the proper shoes...yeah, right! But I do carry "Lucille". :D

I went back to diet pop but I did not replace the sugar in my tea. After the last week, I figured I needed to make a few changes. I've not tired the Califlower potatoes yet. Frankly they scare me LOL. But maybe soon. I'm making spegetti for dinner (my own recipe) ;) ...
-
Just how old is "Lucille" 22? 32? 38? :D -
Hey Lea! Yup, I changed to diet-cola too, when I have one and I use Splenda mixed with sugar for my tea...you'd be surprised how many little calories you can save like that! (I love 'skettie.)
Well, Hardsheller, she's only 9...mm, that is, and I use hollowpoints to give it more punch! -
I give up! On diets that is... Between the paper route and the school crossing and the extra work and 'good meals' involved in having 2 grandsons living here now, I NEED MY CARBS! I am tired all the time...
I figure I am getting plenty of exercise so I am going to eat what I want but try to cut down on my portions. I have tried everything else - maybe this will work.
I haven't really lost too much since I started the paper route, but I can tell some of the fat has turned to muscle...that can't be all bad! I know my clothes fit better...
Pray for me as I try to feed my 3 guys, what they want and also, to eat healthier myself.
Blessings,
§ue -
Sue, thats what happened to my friend, she got so tired and almost passed out at the hospital where she works. The doctors told her she needed to eat carbs. Extreme low carb eating is not healthy for the body, it's basic idea is not biblical it is just another way of abusing(neglecting food needs) the body with foods. Eating a healthy mixture of healthy foods, with serving control is honoring God with our bodies.
-
That's what I do, Sue, is eat WHAT I want, but just not HOW MUCH I want of it. I use smaller plates(pretty ones), and when I can buy something in low-fat, I do. It's worked for me and it'll work for you. Praying~as always.

I'm fairly new to this board and very late in this thread, but not terribly new to taking control of my weight again.
In January 1999, just after my 47th birthday, I weighed for the first time in nearly 20 years. I'm only about 5'8" and small-boned, so when I tipped the scales at 210, I knew I had seriously allowed myself to go to seed.
I thought things through and came to some decisions. One was that a fad diet wasn't worth the effort; I needed to make a permanent lifestyle change. Another was that I needed to be somewhat cautious and make choices that I could stick with over the long haul. I set a goal of shedding 50 pounds in 12 months, something that seemed attainable. And in my condition, I knew that almost anything I did would have positive results.
Being cheap, I bought no books, special clothes, nor joined a club. I began by cutting out obvious weight producers (like my nightly bowl of ice cream). And I began walking, about 20 minutes at first - in just my street clothes, gradually increasing time and distance. After a few months, I bought digital bathroom scales (I had been using the medical scales at the nurses station at work). I eventually bought some sweats and shoes just for walking.
Long story short: I reached my goal in 12 months and have kept the weight off, continuing to exercise and eat sensibly. At 52, I feel better than I did at 25. I cannot begin to describe how good it feels to climb hills, stairs, or zip around the Wal-Mart parking lot at top speed without getting short of breath (I always park as far from the entrance as possible). Most evenings I power-walk between 80 and 90 minutes.
Also, during the past 5 and a half years I have raised several thousand dollars for local charitable organizations by walking in local events. To my surprise, this year I was officially named the lead-guide in the Sav-A-Life fundraiser since I had finished first in the previous 4 Walk-for-Life events - and did it again this year. Pretty good for an old codger who 6 years ago couldn't walk up a flight of stairs without getting winded. -
Congratulations on the changes you have made and the results you are enjoying! -
Congratulations Eutychus! I liked what ya said about "going to seed"...That don't sound quite as bad as "going to pot". Seeds are smaller.
At first, I tho't I couldn't live without my cuppa nitely ice cream...then I switched to one of the liter-versions(ick) & decided I didn't need it half as bad as I tho't. ;)
Not being able to climb a flight of stairs was one of the things that prompted me a few years ago to do something about myself...now here I am, more than 150# lighter!
