    We often say we are “saved” (or lost). What are we saved from?

    Please explain your answer with brief scripture support.

    I appreciate your knowledge but won’t read a multi post, 1000’s of words essay.

    Thank you

    peace to you

    1. Hell: In the bigger (overall) scheme, yes, But at the same time, those whose names were "written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that hath been slain" have never been in danger of hell.
    2. Wrath of God: Depends on how one behaves. God is not mocked
    3. Eternal separation from God: See #1.
    4. Our own sin; ABSOLUTELY!
    5. The influence of Satan and the demons: Yes. Unless God turns you over to Satan in order to be taught a lesson (see #2). He does that, you know.
    6. Death: ABSOLUTELY!
    7. Lake of fire: Made for the devil and his messengers, NOT God's children.
    8. Other: IMO, 'saved' from an unclean conscience is one of our biggest bennies we have in His kingdom in this temporal realm.

    I'd say all the above.

    Scripture states that we are saved from sin, from the powers of Satan, from the powers of this age. Scripture also says in Christ we escape the wrath to come, escape Hell, and are welcomed by God rather than cast out.

    They all kinda go together.

    7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said unto them, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
    8 Bring forth therefore fruit worthy of repentance:
    9 and think not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
    10 And even now the axe lieth at the root of the trees: every tree therefore that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.
    11 I indeed baptize you in water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire:
    12 whose fan is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor; and he will gather his wheat into the garner, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire. Mt 3

    I originally checked "death", but realized the "second death" was already there (Hell). So I figured that was too ambitious (even though we die, yet shall we live).

    I also originally checked "our own sin", but realized we are not actually saved from our sin (our sins are forgiven and we are freed from the bondage of sin and death).

    Ourselves*; (your #4)

    This is MORE THAN very important, because a person's soul can not and 'will not'
    have the mental cognizance to have A NEED TO BE SAVED,
    until God Grants them a recognition of their helpless and hopeless position
    before Him, as The Eternal Holy God THAT THEY HAVE OFFENDED
    by committing the sins of breaking His Eternal Moral Law, The Ten Commandments, etc.

    JESUS CAME TO SEEK AND TO SAVE THAT WHICH WAS LOST.

    "For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost."
    Luke 19:10.

    We don't talk to people about Jesus, unless it is to point out
    MY SINS NAILED HIM TO THE CROSS.

    A PERSON has to have THE UNDERSTANDING THAT THEY ARE LOST WITHOUT GOD.

    Ipso facto; (by fact or actions): AN INDIVIDUAL
    "HAS TO PERSONALLY KNOW THAT THEY ARE LOST BEFORE THEY CAN BE SAVED."

    The Eternal sins against The Eternal God MERIT ETERNAL PUNISHMENT
    where their sins are so serious that throughout all Eternity they will NEVER BE PAID.

    Himself, John 1:3, All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

    Romans 4:25, Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.

    1 Corinthians 15:17, And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins.

    Romans 5:10, For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

    7 The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul: The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.
    8 The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of Jehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes.
    9 The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever: The ordinances of Jehovah are true, and righteous altogether.
    10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb.
    11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: In keeping them there is great reward.
    12 Who can discern his errors? Clear thou me from hidden faults. Ps 19

    Yes. God 'heard' His supplication and raised Him from the dead:
    Jesus sweating blood | Baptist Christian Forums (baptistboard.com)

    The Jews wickedly, illegally judged Him and put Him to death, God annulled their judgement and raised Him from the dead, declaring Him to be righteous. The Jews killed Him but God raised Him from the dead:

    Acts 2:
    23 him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:
    24 whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.
    36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

    Acts 3:
    14 But ye denied the Holy and Righteous One, and asked for a murderer to be granted unto you,
    15 and killed the Prince of life; whom God raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses.

    Acts 4:
    10 be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even in him doth this man stand here before you whole.

    Acts 5:
    30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew, hanging him on a tree.
    31 Him did God exalt with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, to give repentance to Israel, and remission of sins.

    Acts 7:
    52 Which of the prophets did not your fathers persecute? and they killed them that showed before of the coming of the Righteous One; of whom ye have now become betrayers and murderers;
    56 and said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing on the right hand of God. Acts 7

    Acts 10:
    39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the country of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom also they slew, hanging him on a tree.
    40 Him God raised up the third day, and gave him to be made manifest,

    Acts 13:
    28 And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.
    29 And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.
    30 But God raised him from the dead:

    I like that from the other thread and would add to it;
    Return unto thy rest, O my soul; for the LORD hath dealt bountifully with thee.
    For thou hast delivered my soul from death, mine eyes from tears, and my feet from falling.
    I will walk before the LORD in the land of the living. Ps 110:7-9

    Also consider from V 10 Ps 110 I believed, therefore have I spoken: relative to 2 Cor 4: 10 thru chapter 5

    It was the faith of the Son in the Father relative to the promise God made before time began and the faith of the Father in the Son born of woman in willfully shedding his blood unto death, even the death of the cross.

    I agree: Yet I ask, God as in God the Father Gal 1:1 Paul, an apostle -- not from men, nor through man, but through Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who did raise him out of the dead --
    Or as is God in some other fashion?

    We can be saved because of the washing of regeneration of the Son IMHO.

    Rom 5:10 YLT for if, being enemies, we have been reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved in his life.
    Heb 5:9 YLT and having been made perfect [through resurrection out of the dead, washing of regeneration], he did become to all those obeying him a cause of salvation age-during,

    "Heb 5:9 YLT and having been made perfect
    [through resurrection out of the dead,

    Hebrews 5:7

    with strong crying and tears unto Him that was able to Save Him from death, and was heard in that He feared;"

    "unto Him that was able to save Him from death; from a corporeal death, as He could,
    but that it was otherwise determined; or rather to raise Him from the dead,
    to deliver Him from the state of the dead, from the power of death, and the grave, as He did;
    and so the Syriac version renders it,
    "to Quicken Him from death";
    to restore Him from Death to Life:

    Hebrews 5 Gill's Exposition

    Hebrews 5:8
    "Though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered;"

    Hebrews 5:9
    "And being made Perfect,
    He became the Author of Eternal Salvation unto all them that obey Him;"

    "He became the Author of Eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him";

    the salvation Christ is the Author of is "eternal";

    "the salvation Christ is the Author of
    was resolved upon from Eternity,
    and contrived in Eternity;

    "the salvation Christ is the Author of
    was secured in the Everlasting Covenant,
    in which not only a Savior was Provided,
    but blessings both of Grace and Glory:

    "and the salvation Christ is the Author of is to Eternity;
    and stands distinguished from a temporal salvation,
    and is opposed to Eternal Damnation;

    "the salvation Christ is the Author of
    is the salvation of the soul,
    which is Immortal;

    "and the salvation Christ is the Author of
    takes in both grace and glory, which are of a durable nature;

    "and the continuance of the salvation Christ is the Author of
    is owing to the abiding and lasting virtue of Christ's Person,
    blood, and Righteousness:

    "and Christ is the Cause or Author of this salvation,
    by His Obedience and Sufferings; by Obeying the precept,
    and Bearing the penalty of the law; by the Price of His blood,
    and by the Power of His Arm; by His death and by His Life;

    "by His Sacrifice on the cross, and by His Intercession in Heaven;

    "by Bestowing Grace here, and Glory Hereafter:

    "this shows that salvation is done,
    and that Christ is the sole author of it,

    "and that all the Glory of it should be given to Him;

    "and those to whom He is the Author of salvation,
    are such as hearken to the Voice of His Gospel,
    and obey Him in His Ordinances.

    "Christ is not the author of salvation to all men;
    all men do not obey Him;

    "all those whom Christ saves,
    He brings them to an obedience to Himself;

    "because His Obedience for them does not exempt them
    from obedience to him,

    "though their obedience is no cause of their salvation;

    "Christ Himself is the alone Author of salvation."

    YES.

    THIS IS ALL ABOUT GOD'S LOVE!!!

    OUR SALVATION THROUGH THE DEATH, BURIAL,
    AND RESURRECTION OF JESUS CHRIST
    IS ALL BECAUSE OF GOD'S LOVE TOWARD US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    God commendeth His Love toward us;

    "...scarcely for a righteous man, peradventure for a good man, one would die, yet no man dies for the ungodly,
    as Christ did: hence as His LOVE, so His Father's Love is highly commended,
    by giving Him up to death for persons while in such a state and condition, and under such a character, Romans 5:8;"

    "But God commendeth His Love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."

    "and Justification now springing from this Love, and being founded on the death of Christ,
    hence follow a security from wrath to come, Romans 5:9;"

    "Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

    "a certainty of salvation, Romans 5:10;"

    "For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son,
    much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life."

    "which is strongly argued from the different characters those Christ died for bear, before and after reconciliation,
    and from the death to the life of Christ, Romans 5:10, (above);

    "and also a rejoicing and glorying: in God through Christ, full expiation being made by his blood for sin,
    and this received by faith, Romans 5:11;

    "And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
    by whom we have now received the Atonement."

    Your answer that you will find from the Bible AS TO "Who saved the Son?"
    is that THE TRIUNE GODHEAD RAISED JESUS FROM THE DEAD.

    PLEASE SEE "4. Fourthly, The causes of the resurrection of Christ from the dead deserve notice,...", BELOW;

    (And yet, not for a second to 'take away' or 'diminish' a thing from such Declarations in passages like:)

    “God Raised Him from the dead and Gave Him Glory” (1 Pet. 1:21).

    This is one of the Principal Articles of the Christian Faith; a very important one,
    and on which the Truth of the whole Gospel depends
    (1 Cor. 15:4, 14)."

    Adapted from;

    A BODY OF DOCTRINAL DIVINITY

    BY
    JOHN GILL, D.D.

    because I benefit from his ministry in which I find that he resolutely, arduously, and diligently worships God.

    As Spurgeon said, "who is more sober* than John Gill?"...

    *
    straight, dry, steady, clearheaded, cool, and abstemious = ascetic, ascetical, abstinent, temperate, continent,
    self-denying, abstentious, self-abnegating, austere, disciplined,
    self-disciplined, self-controlled,
    and
    self-governed, IMHO.

    Chapter 6

    Of the Resurrection of Christ from the Dead.

    3a. It was in Jesus' Human Body that Jesus' was Resurrected; not in Jesus' Divine Nature,
    because Jesus' Divine Nature was not capable of suffering and dying,
    so His Divine Nature is not the subject of the Resurrection;

    nor is His Human Soul the subject of the Resurrection; because His Human Soul DID NOT DIE with the Body;
    but His Human Soul went to Heaven, to Paradise, AT THE TIME His Human Soul's separated from Jesus' Human Body,

    but in Jesus' Human Body is the subject of the Resurrection: BECAUSE He was put to death in the flesh,
    so He was Raised from the dead in HIS BODY OF FLESH AND BONES;

    it was the JESUS' HUMAN BODY only that died,
    and IT WAS ONLY JESUS' HUMAN BODY that was Raised Again:
    when Christ said, “Destroy this Temple, and in three days I Will Raise It Up”,
    the evangelist observes, that “He spoke of the Temple of His Body” (John 2:19, 21).

    (Alan's Note: As you see there a reference to your answer for "Who Saved the Son?",
    that passage indicates that it is Jesus Christ Who Raised Himself from the dead;
    AND SO HE DID, JUST AS GOD THE FATHER AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT DID, ALSO, ALL TOGETHER
    OPERATING AS THE TRIUNE GODHEAD THAT THEY ETERNALLY ARE AND HAVE BENN FOREVER.....)

    3c. Jesus' Human body was Raised Immortal, clear of all former infirmities, as weariness, hunger, thirst, etc.
    Jesus' human Body was, before, Mortal, as the event OF JESUS BEING CRUCIFIED showed;

    Christ was Crucified through weakness: but was Raised Powerful, Immortal, and Incorruptible,
    never to die more; nor shall death have any more dominion over Him; He Lives for Evermore,
    and has the Keys of Hell and death, JESUS IS IN AUTHORITY OVER the Government of the grave,
    and can Open it at His Pleasure, and Let Out the inhabitants of THE GRAVE free (Rom. 6:9; Rev. 1:18).

    3d. JESUS' HUMAN BODY was Raised Very Glorious;
    of which His Transfiguration upon the mountain, before His decease, was an emblem and pledge:

    and though He might not appear in so much Glory immediately after His Resurrection,
    and during His stay with His disciples, before His Ascension,
    they not being able to bear the Luster of His Countenance, JESUS' HUMAN BODY really had;

    yet now, being Crowned with Glory and Honor,
    JESUS' HUMAN BODY body is a GloriousOne,

    according to which the bodies of the saints will be Fashioned,
    at the Resurrection of the Just (Phil. 3:21).

    4. Fourthly,
    The Causes of
    The Resurrection of Jesus Christ;

    The Resurrection of Jesus Christ
    is frequently ascribed to God the Father, without any distinction of Persons;

    The Resurrection of Jesus Christ being a Divine Work, which none but God could Do,
    and is a Work of the Exceeding Greatness of His Power (Eph. 1:19; Acts 2:24, 32; 3:13, 15; 4:10; 5:30),

    yet The Resurrection of Jesus Christ being a Work “ad extra”, All the Three Divine Persons were concerned in it.

    The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is sometimes ascribed to God the Father, as in Ephesians 1:17-20
    again in Acts 13:30, 33 which words are said to the Son by God the Father, Who Raised Him from the dead;
    (see also 1 Pet. 1:3).

    At other times The Resurrection of Jesus Christ is ascribed to the Son Himself:
    Jesus declared beforehand, that when the Temple of His Body was destroyed, He would Raise It Up Again;

    and that, as JESUS had Power to Lay Down His Life, AND He had Power to Take It Up Again, which He Did;

    and was thereby declared to be the Son of God with Power (John 2:19, 21; 0:18; Rom. 1:4; see also 1 Pet. 3:18).

    The Holy Spirit, the Third Person, had also a concern in The Resurrection of Jesus Christ;
    because the declaration of Christ’s Sonship with Power was

    “according to the Spirit of holiness”
    ,

    or the Holy Spirit, “by the Resurrection from the dead”;

    that is, by Raising Jesus Christ from the dead; and as God, by His Spirit,
    will Raise the members of Christ at the Last Day,

    so by the Same Spirit, He Raised Jesus Christ,
    on Whose Resurrection ALL SAVED SOULS depends,
    which is intimated by the apostle (Rom. 8:11).

    And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

    It took a while.

    The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; Deut 18:15

    Who is that speaking of?

    John 2:18,19 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
    Matt 12:39,40 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

    John 12:49 For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.

    John 6:14 Then those men, when they had seen the miracle that Jesus did, said, This is of a truth that prophet that should come into the world.
    John 7:40 Many of the people therefore, when they heard this saying, said, Of a truth this is the Prophet.

    Is Jesus speaking in the context of thus sayeth the LORD?

    Here is another relative thought.

    And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. Matt 16:18

    Is the Church built by the Son or is it built by the Father through the resurrection of the Son?
    Is Jesus also speaking in Matt 16:18 in the context of thus sayeth the LORD.

    Isa 28:16 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

    Is Jesus the first stone to be lain, the cornerstone of the church?
    When and how did it become the head of the corner?
    Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
    This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

    Is that the beginning of the church of God? Did Hades not prevail against the stone?

    Acts 2:31 NKJV “he, foreseeing this, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.
