Why all the Israel reports?

Why do get these continual reports on what is going on between Israel and the PLO? It seems that many on this board are more concerned about a country many miles away then they are in what is happening say in our own inner cities where many more innocent and not so innocent people die everyday. Seems to me our priorities are a bit out of whack.

Doesn't the Bible tell us to pray for the peace of Jerusalem as well as to have concern for our neighbors?

Maybe it is that some christians do seem to feel closely connected with Israel through thr Old Testament, which is ok.

Biblically speaking it would seem that Israel has historical signifigance and also prophetic type significance.
