The GOP could suffer, opening the way for a third-party movement

    Howard Fineman
    MSNBC contributor

WASHINGTON - Forget the black hat. Everybody here is obsessed with Jack Abramoff’s gangster-like attire as he came out of the federal courthouse. But the thing that jumps out at me is the figure $20,194,000. If I read the fed’s plea-agreement papers correctly, that’s the amount of cold cash that the Republican lobbyist siphoned from Indian tribes and stashed in his secret accounts.

You may not believe this, but in this city, that is an unheard of amount of money for a lobbyist to haul in — and the number itself signifies a troubling change in the nature of life in the capital of our country.

Abramaoff apparently has 1000's of e-mails implicating GOP leadership...worst than tea pot dome...watergate? time will tell...one thing for certain it is a GOP scandal and they are not exactly for the people ..more like.. in it for themselves.

The American people are paying the price from this un-Godly group who only care about themselves and their special interests to hoard
    even more.

Since this is probably going to end up being a long thread and the matter is just opening up with possible indictments coming down the pike, am transferring this to the Politics Forum, so there will not be the 3-page limit.

    Hiya ASLANSPAL,

Where did you get those numbers from? There is no link to the picture you posted. Also, it doesn't show any Democrats on that list, are you saying that are no Democrats that took any money?

    Hiya Carpro,

Your links are both broken, and then when they do work, you need a username/password to gain the information.

Also, the money the is in your list, although not backed by any records, are somewhat faulty.

We are talking about the money that Jack gave to the parties, wheras you have listed monies that have come from some of the Indian tribes. An example:

Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND) Received At Least – $79,300

He received nothing from Jack, but did receive money from the Indian tribes represented by Jack.

Now, that is not to say that some Democrats didn't and haven't taken money, (remeber my other posts, I think ALL politicans are corrupt), but I do believe this is a bigger Republican problem, and the Republicans will spin this to make it seem like everyone is doing it, so it's not that bad.

I think it's time for a NEW party, or at least we as Christians should support a new party, or pick one of the others that will better represent us.

Too many Christians still believe the GOP is the POG (Party of God) to change to the CP.

I am surprised to read this from you, LE, as much as you have been defending George W. Bush and the Republican Party over Snoopgate.

The big loser will the GOP this November. I think they will lose both houses of Congress. They are the party in power so they will take the worst hit for corruption.

This reminds me of all the politicians, mostly democrats, that scrambled to rewrite their travel records after DeLay was indicted. ;)

Guess what. Some of those travel shenanigans involved Abramoff, too.

Politicians of neither party will have much fun with this case. But, it'll take a lot of time. Abramoffs testimony alone will not be enough to convict any of them. [IMG]

Yes, I would like to see the Democrats win both houses of Congress to have oversight on the executive branch for 2007-2008.

You may very well be correct in this, and if so, it is a very effective political action by the Democrats, who desperately need something to hang their prospects on.

You stated Hillary would win the white house, (I thought, but may be wrong) which would give the entire ball of wax to the Democrats, who would waste no time scrambling this nation.

No, not me. I have not made any prediction about who will win in 2008.
