Ambiguous Word create confusion.
Here are five words frequently found in our New Testaments, translating Greek words with more than one meaning.
1) Baptism - does this refer to our water baptism in obedience to Christ, or our spiritual baptism into Christ?
2) Sanctification - does this refer to being set apart spiritually into Christ, or being progressively conformed to the image of Christ?
3) Called - does this refer to being invited to put our trust in Christ, or being spiritually transferred into Christ by God?
4) Hell... -
ĕlōhı̂m: Plural Persons, or Majesty?
˒ĕlōhı̂m: Plural Persons, or Majesty?
The very first verse in the Holy Bible reads, “In the beginning ˒ĕlōhı̂m Created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1)
“˒ĕlōhı̂m” is not a Name of God, but more a description or identity of the Supreme Divine Being in the Old Testament. “˒ĕlōhı̂m”, is masculine in gender, and plural in number. It has most probably from the root “˒ēl”, or “˒ĕlōah”, both are also masculine, but singular.
How are we to understand the plural form “˒ĕlōhı̂m”? The Jews... -
The Resurrection of Abraham and the Millennial Reign of Christ???
What if Abraham is resurrected from the dead only to find out that God did not really mean what he said in his promises to him concerning his family, the land of promise, Palestine, and a Seed through whom all the families of the world will be blessed?
What if the Amils and general resurrectionists and those who teach an eternity without an earth are right? Could any of us today really depend on the promises God has made to us, many of which depends on our own resurrection and bodily... -

that ye sin not. And if any man sin,
we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

Not commonly understood.
There are a number of Biblical truths that are not commonly understood.
And some are simply not agreed on.
The Word being the Son of God, He was twice not a man.
First from eternity past. John 1:2-3 and John 1:14.
The second time on the cross in receiving our wages of sin, per Psalms 22:6, and Romans 6:23, per Romans 5:8. -
Are there Differences Between the Received Text and the Westcott-Hort Greek Text?
Are there Differences
Between the Received Text
and the Westcott-Hort Greek Text?
"There are many myths that are perpetuated today
by the defenders of the modern versions,
and one of those is that there is very little difference
between the Received Text underlying the King James Bible
and other ancient Protestant versions
and the Westcott-Hort Greek text
underlying most of the modern versions.
"Westcott and Hort themselves made this claim in their day,
and it is widely repeated today.... -
Christ died for all man
Please correct me if I have misunderstood, but it appears that you are arguing that Christ’s death was for EVERYONE (all persons without exception) and obtained for them/us nothing more and nothing less (through His death) than “resurrection to stand judgement”. We all (saints and sinners) get a “get out of Sheol” card … this allows us (saints and sinners) to move on to an ETERNAL DESTINY which is determined by something OTHER THAN the simple fact of Christ’s death.
Is that accurate?Your... -
A Nuanced Examination of Exodus 20:1-17
This topic turned out to be a popular one with many people participating from many different perspectives.
The previous iteration of this thread was "There Are Only Nine Commandments". Consider this nuanced examination a "2.0" of the previous thread. I will link the previous thread here:
There Are Only Nine Commandments
Today's questions are simple (or maybe not so simple).
How many commandments are there and what are they?
At first glance, the scripture reveals either 9 or 11... -
Gender-Sensitive Bible Translation
THE JPS TANAKH: Gender-Sensitive Edition has been published (October 2023)
From the Introduction:
A Flood of Shifts in English Usage
Much as a flooding river can reconfigure the channel through which it subsequently flows, rapid changes in English usage have, in the years since NJPS was published, reshaped how its achievement is viewed. Whereas NJPS had frequently employed both the masculine pronouns he/him/his/himself and the noun man in their classic generic sense, such usage has since... -
John Calvin vs Calvinism
John Calvin vs Calvinism
This study is on the “L” of the acronym TULIP, which were drawn up at the Synod of Dort, between 1618-1619, by “Calvinists”, who were supposed to be followers of the teaching of the French theologian, John Calvin.
“L” is defined by the website, gotquestions.org, as:
“Limited Atonement - Because God determined that certain ones should be saved as a result of God’s unconditional election, He determined that Christ should die for the elect alone. All whom God has...
