This is a question not of great personal importance to me, but I do wish to see how those who post on the Baptist (only) forums feel about it.

Hello, hi, howdie-doodie, morning, Hey, He Y'all, Yo, Yello, How ya doing, What's up?

Can anyone think of any other ways a pastor should be addressed?

Interesting question, Alcott. I think that many people may wonder what is proper. I don't mind any adults calling me by my first name (all my closest friends and family - and my wife - do so). I guess I'm old school enough that I don't like to hear children call adults by their first name. As a pastor, I have usually been called Bro. (first name) or Bro. (last name) by church members. That is probably because many of those people seemed to feel calling their pastor by his first name was a little disrespectful. I don't care to be called by any title, especially not "reverend", and I don't "return the favor" (of titles) to other pastors (that is, in conversation). In writing I might use Pastor so-and-so or Elder so-and-so, but I don't really think even the Bible names - pastor, teacher, bishop, elder - are intended as titles.

As a pastor I really do not care what people call me...most call me Bro. David or Pastor David and I am fine with that.

I agree with rlvaughn in that I do not care to be called "Rev" or "Reverend". I especially disliked in one town the funeral home refered in their program to all ministers as "The Reverend" so and so. I could not stand that and asked to simply be called Pastor David.

It does not matter to me. I call my pastor "Pastor". That's what I choose to call him.

    In Christ,

My husband has been addressed as:

Bro. Jimmy (preferred), Bro. Jim (yech), Bro. Barrett, Pastor Barrett, Pastor, Preacher (oddly enough only by people that had problems with him being a pastor at a young age), Honey (by me [IMG] )

I usually call our Pastor "Preacher". Our kids call him "New Preacher".
He became our Pastor in August.

I have 2 little boys in my church that refer to me as "Cubs fan" [IMG] , since I am a Chicago Cubs fan and just about everyone else here is a Cardinals fan. We have a good time with it...

After pastoring for 30 years I was called Pastor, Reverend, etc. by most, and a few by my first name. Now I am pastoring pastors, and I have an earned D.Min. so many call me Dr., which I am still not comfortable with even after 15 years. Sometimes people ask me what they should call me, I just say my name is Wayne. Ahh, so now you know who the Circuitrider really is! Who was that masked man? :D

Around here most just call me Preacher (my favorite). We do a community service with the Catholic church the priest calls me Reverend and the Catholic folks call me Pastor and I call them Father as do my church folks. Considering where we live that is pretty formal, usually we are less formal then that.

When speaking to a preacher, I will say Brother so-and-so(first or last name, usually depending on how they were introduced to me).

When speaking of a preacher, especially in a formal setting or where people may not be very familiar with him, I will say Elder so-and-so.

Reverend is reserved for God only.

"Pastor" or "Preacher" is very heartwarming and humbling to me.

I agree Bro. James. We should not revere anyone but God. I can't bring myself to call anyone Reverend.
