My spouse still brings me my morning coffee, in my favorite E.I.B. patriotism police mug. I love her.

My question is, can an alcoholic take Nyquil and not go off the wagon?

I have known alcolohics. Generally, no, an alcoholic should refrain from Nyquil. I don't think that if an alcoholic inadvertently took nyquil for a serious ailment necessary breaks the period of sobriety, however.

But this is not a case of a medicine that has 10 or more percent alcohol. It's a case of a drink that has 1/2% alcohol. There are benign foods that have as much alcohol than that.

President Bush didn't drive into a river with a passenger in the car, leave her to drown, and then not bother to call the cops for some hours.

    ASLANSPAL,

Were the pickings pretty short on desperate items to blast the President about? So he had a beer, alcohol or not.

He was just luckier than Teddy. He was stopped by the cops before he killed anyone. His sin is the same.

The drinking, the "running around", the driving while drinking, the failure to render aid, the failure to promptly notify authorities, or years of lying about what really took place? Of course, we weren't there - in either case - so we don't know if all these things are true or false. But, for purposes of comparison, I ask the questions based upon the alledged misconduct.

I very seldom agree with you, but do enjoy your posts. You have a funny sort of logic, but logic none the less. However, get a good nights sleep, and come back tomorrow and try this one again. It isnt quite up to your standards. ;)

How many Baptist would no longer vote for Bush if he did like to get stuck into a Budweiser?

Depends on whether he takes a tablespoon or a couple of bottles as his dosage and whether he stops when the cough subsides.

    Alcoholics can get bronchitis, too.

Vanilla flavoring has alochol in it. Should we bash everyone who adds it to their coffee or cookies or cakes?

Depends - if they add four or five economy-sized bottles to each cup of coffee and dunk their cookies and cakes in it - they may have a problem.

But no, no bashing, just intervention (and gossip and head-shaking and lots of self-congratulations that we are not like that).

When I reflect back on my life's many sins I wish I could erase them all but I can not. Excessive drinking is rather minor among my many failures to follow God's laws and to treat His creation properly. All I can look forward to is the promise that before the Father I will be held blameless because of the Son's work for me without my merit. There's nothing better than that! In the meantime, the Spirit must guide me towards avoiding future sins and that, friends, is a huge challenge which I'm certain not to meet!

I often wonder how I'd handle it if all my past failures where graphically revealed and debated by the whole world. Fortunately, I'm not running for public office so, from that perspective, I'll likely be spared the public embarrassment. It would certainly be difficult to face those things and, like many of us, I'd rather they remained out of sight. It would be particularly difficult if I knew the motives of those exposing my failures were themselves based upon no good. I feel considerable empathy for honest Christian men and women who serve in public office knowing what's behind their closet doors. I have little - frequently, no - empathy for those who refuse to accept responsibility for their failures and continue forward in them.

From my family and friends, for those sins and misdeeds I have acknowledged to them, I have received their forgiveness, understanding, and acceptance of my imperfect being. They also give me undue credit for the things I sometimes have done correctly. Loved ones are a major comfort aren't they? God blessed us greatly with His concept of family. My greatest personal blessings on this earth must surely include my parents, my wife, and my children.

We must still speak out against those sinful things we do - even those which we've committed ourselves - because they are wrong before God. That includes those things in the public view. We must judge that which is wrong among us to be wrong but we must not attempt to judge others to eternal salvation or to eternal condemnation because we can not. We can not let our own failures keep us for proclaiming God's truth. We just need to be sure we remember who's really calling the final shots for His own creation.

I say it's o.k. to have a few non-alchaholic brewskis if he wants even if they do have some alchahol content, just so long as he has a designated driver with him.
