Brent pumps my gas for me now. I don't think it's a bit too early for him to learn...

Next, I will teach him how to check the oil and put air in the tires.

Saturn is great. When we have our oil changed, Saturn checks and tops off our fluids, washes the car and checks the tire pressure.

Nick's too young to pump gas. I don't know if it's a state law or just a local thing but the signs say no one under 16 may pump fuel.

I have my oil changed at "Ten Minute Lube". I don't take my car to the dealership. I can't afford it! Wish I could sometimes...

Blackbird, we all must be from the same part of the woods.

We had the kids out target practicing this past weekend. Precious(also 12) had the experience of shooting her dads new 44 Magnum(Dirty Harry gun). Thought she was pretty cool. It is a little big for her though. Next time we go we'll take the .380(my gun) and the 9mm(T's carrying gun) and let her try them.

Son and Bitsy(only with Dad's hands on her and the gun) got to try MIL little .22. Bitsy decided she would stick with the air pistol!

Don't worry, the guns are locked when not in use!

I was my dad's second son, seeing as how my brother was 5 1/2 years older than me and just about the time he moved out, I was old enough to handle the tools. I learned everything from carpentry and plumbing/wiring skills to car mechanics. If I have to do it I can!

Most of the time though, I let someone else do the heavy stuff. I have a couple of bad disks in my back and neck that I have to watch out for. :D

WOW! It's way more expensive than that here.

Hubby DOES want me to take it to the dealership and have it put on the diagnostic computer, and have them fix anything that needs fixing, when we get our tax refund.

It is a 1996 and paid for. We want to keep it running as long as possible...

Sue, I learned how to drive a stick shift back when I was 13 (almost 30 years ago), and I'm glad I did. Viv knows how to drive one, but is nervous about it. She won't let me drive one because of my need for a knee replacement in my left knee and arthritis in my lower back. She says I become a "bear" because of the pain.

An oil change here is running right around $26 just for the basic service and $38-45 for deluxe service (they top off the fluids, vacuum the car, clean the windows, check the tire pressure, belts, etc). On the Sonata, it's relatively inexpensive...around $14.00. We've got three more years on that one with a coupon book.

I taught myself to drive a stick shift when I was about 32 or so. I have to put it in neutral while waiting for the car lines at the two schools. It takes me an hour to pick up 2 kids at 2 schools every day. My knees would kill me if I tried to do it without putting the car in neutral and using the emergency brake.
