How happy you must be!! I remember when my son-in-law adopted my granddaughter, The judge allowed both grandmothers in the courtroom. It was glorious to see my granddaughter get a dad that loved her. My son-in-law was beaming 'cause he got a daughter (he has 4 sons). May God truly bless your family as he has blessed ours. One thing more, my granddaughter and her dad celebrate the, "doption day"as they put it, more than her actual birthday. Dad takes her all day and does special things with just her. My granddaughter looks at that more than her actual BD....May our Heavenly Father bless you and yours! :praying:

Hey everyone! Had a busy day yesterday, a bit today and will be pretty busy tomorrow. I had work yesterday and then had to come home to clean my house so I could have our small group here. Today I had PT then DH and I went shopping to get a sink, faucet and mirror for our remodelling job on the 1/2 bathroom. Now I'm making up dinners (yep - multiple because I have a few people in need this weekend - a death of a mother, a miscarriage and a mom who has a 6 year old who just got his tonsils out), and then we'll be watching "Facing the Giants" tonight. Tomorrow is church (and I'm manning the "Welcome Center" AND running the computer for the service), then I have to put together the graphics for a funeral (pastor's wife's mom passed away) so Bob will take everyone home after church while I stay there a while. I'm then bringing dinner to an online friend (who happens to live about 30 minutes away) and then home to relax since DH and the girls are going to a concert - Chris Tomlin (worship leader who's got some absolutely awesome songs). So atleast tomorrow evening when I get home will be relaxing. :D

It's still cold and slippery here from all the ice we got this past week. The horses are stuck in the barn - it's just too dangerous to get them outside right now and the kids can't go out to play either. It stinks - hopefully we'll be able to get rid of this soon and get some REAL snow soon!!

    Good morning all.

It is finally up to two digits! 13º right now!

No church again today. Brent has 102º fever and a very sore throat. I have had him drinking liquids since yesterday, but his throat is much worse this morning and his glands hurt, although they don't feel swollen. I will take him to the ER if it gets to the point where he can't drink liquids. I don't want him dehydrating.

    Have a blessed Lord's Day!

Aww - Sue, I'm sorry Brent is feeling so icky this morning! Do you have stuff to make smoothies or something? Usually those go down the easiest because they also are so cold they take down some of the swelling.

I'm getting ready for church now and will be up there until late afternoon. I have the service to do and then set up the funeral, then I'll be coming home. DH and the girls will then leave for the Chris Tomlin worship concert at 5 (I SO wish I could go but I can't. I LOVE pretty much all of Chris' songs).

    Good morning, folks!

Poured during the night and sunny now with more clouds on the way.

Barry's sick today -- has been for a couple of days. Been sleeping for hours each day as well as all night. So he won't be going to church today and since it's my Sunday to stay home with Chris so Gina can go to church, that effectively grounds all of us!

Other than that, all is calm. Crocuses are crowding around the mailbox, looking wonderful in the middle of gray days. Buds are showing up on things and bulbs peeking up out of the ground. Promises of things to come. Geese honking overhead more and more now as they start to return north.

Maybe it's just me who's having trouble getting going this morning! All of nature seems to be doing just fine!

Ann, hope your graphics go well, and, Sue, I'm so sorry about Brent. Give him our best and I'm glad he has you to take care of him. God bless you all.

Breadfast is on. Hay in the bale and grain in the bin....oops that's for the horses.

OK, for you folks the grain has been fixed into oatmeal and toast. Fresh fruit on the sideboard and bacon and sausages warming in the chafing dish.

Oh, no Helen!! Another one down! Yikes!! I hope Barry feels better quickly!! Oh - I just gave a friend Barry's site addy to check out. This man ran a class through the continuing education program with our school district on "What is Creation Science" and he had no problems with the class - that is until a few people got in a tizzy thinking that the school district was endorsing creationism. OY!! Fortuantely this school district and town have been sued enough by Christians who stand up for their rights that they know that the class was completely legal for them to allow but they had to "have their lawyers look at it" to see if it was OK (which they'll determine was fine). I think it's incredible that they can offer "Problem Solving from a Buddist Perspective" with no problem (the funny thing is that the brochure states "Buddism is not a religion but a philosophy", so they think they're safe), but Creation Science is a "no-no". The board meeting will be next week - I'll be there to stand up for this class and the right of this man to hold it. It's just sad when people are so Christian-phobic that they can't just let people live their lives and not judge someone on what they believe. ;) After all, who's to say they're right? LOL!

    Hey Everyone!

Must be sick week at the BB. :( All three of mine are down. Cass has a migraine and Chris and Jenna have whatever the doc treated Jenna for last week that didn't go away like it was supposed to. Blech! Those two keep coughing and generally feel bad.

Today was my and the preacher's wife day to do children's church. It's a good thing when the children don't want to go home, right? :D One new little boy went flying over to his parents when they came in and said "I want to go to church, HERE! I had fun." Pretty good for kids who had just had a very serious lesson on salvation!

Tonight our choir is joining with the choir from one of the Nazarene churches and we are have an old fashioned singing. Lots of hymn's and "southern Gospel" music. It's gonna be fun.

I have to cook supper and be at church in just one hour so my break is over! See ya'll late or tomorrow.

    Good morning all,

I think the 'deep freeze' is over. It's 28º right now, heading for a high of 40º, and later this week, it's supposed to reach 60º! I'm ready! It will sure be nice when the snow melts down so I can see the top of my picket fence again!

Brent's fever was up and down yesterday. It was back up to 102.5º right before he went to bed. We may make a trip to the doctors today if he isn't better. He is still sleeping and I'm going to let him sleep.

There is no school today, no mail, no government offices are open, I'm not sure if the doctors will be working or not, but I should think so...

    Off to make coffee.
    HAGD!

    Good morning all:wavey:

I might as well join you sickos!
I've had bronchitis for two weeks. Sure has knocked me on my tail. I can't quite kick it. No energy and funny feeling in my chest and head.
Sounds like every other third person here is battling some kind of sickness.

    Helen
    Hi Helen,

Crocuses? Ah...spring is on the way.
I've got daffodils poking their heads up checking for warmer weather. Spring seems to be starting early. Hopefully not a false start.

    Good Morning Everybody,

Did I hear you right Sue?, Did you say 50 degrees?? :applause:

No sickies around here [ I'm saying this quietly too. ]

I brought in Omlettes, Bacon, and Biscuits & Sausage Gravy. Enjoy.

My Wife says I should give up cooking for Lent.
I think I should give up something else like pizza,or hot chocolate. If I give up cooking people around here are going to get cranky, and unhappy real quick.

Yesterday my Wife and I had a long discussion about Church, and I'm going to call the Pastor to set up a time that we can come in to talk to him. I think we've found our new Church home.

Well it's time to get the chores, and the meals done.

    Good Monday Morning, folks!

Sorry you're sick Oasis! We have found that taking vitamin D in the winter tends to ward off the worst of the bugs and shorten the life of the others. I think Barry is sick because he simply does not take time off and so his body runs down. I've told him I'm really going to nag about taking one day off in seven. For me it is Thursdays. I know that sounds funny, but the week is as under control as it is going to get at that point and the weekend activities have not yet started. So Thursday, for years now, has been my traditional day of kicking back, napping, reading, taking it easy and letting my body catch up. Because of Chris, our retarded son, we can't both kick back on the same day that thoroughly, so this last week, Barry slept all day Friday....and Saturday....and most of Sunday! I'll see if I can't get him down next Friday, too, to just rest for a day.

Some folks seem to think 'rest' is a four-letter swear word!

Sue, how is Brent this morning? It's seven in the morning here, so you should be at somewhere around nine? He should be awake soon.

MK, your kids are really going through it this season, aren't they? That means you are, too, taking care of them. Please take care of yourself in those odd moments when you find yourself bored, OK?

Ann, about Christianity and schools -- my Dad gave me an excellent picture of what the world was like once. He told me to imagine all kinds of poles, or sticks, stuck in the ground in a field. All but one were stuck in at some kind of angle. One was straight up. All the angled sticks considered the straight up stick to be weird, proud, out of place, wrong, judgmental (pick your adjective). So Dad's question to me, his challenge to me, was "Are you going to be bent and crooked like the rest of the world or straight up?" I never forgot the picture. I wasn't able to live up to it as a teenager, but I never forgot!

I think it holds regarding Christianity today. All the other bent religions are fine -- they can all agree than an 'angle' is the best place to be and thus can all accept each other to one extent or another. But straight up? No, Christianity is totally unacceptable. These crazy people think they are right to the exclusion of all other religions! How proud! How judgmental!

    How right....

    God bless you all.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Helen, December - March for the upper respiratory stuff and any time school is in session for the stomach bugs. I have seriously considered homeschooling for just this reason. Thing is, I was exactly the same way when I was a kid. I caught everything that came along. Did that until I was in my early twenties and then all of a sudden my immune system kicked in and I rarely get sick anymore.

Jenna is running a fever this morning. It got up to about 102 about 2 o'clock this morning, but a little tylenol brought it right back down. Right now it is hanging at about 100. I'd take her into the doc's but I keep getting a busy signal. That is not a good sign! It's almost 9:30 and if their lines are still busy, then they are going to be CROWDED! Jenna's doc is not in on Monday's so we were already going to have to see someone else. I may just make an appointment for tomorrow.....if I ever get though(beep...beep....beeep.....beep...beep....grrrrr!)

Chris may have more of a sinusy thing going on again. I'm thinking he needs a visit to the ENT. He's had this sinusy thing for a long time it seems. Cass isn't awake yet so, I don't know how she is. She ran a low grade fever herself yesterday but can't tell me that anything more is wrong than a migraine. Migraines do not cause fever!

Bored, Helen? That is soooo last week! :D I don't get to be bored this week and wasn't going to be so even without sick kids. There are 18 pageant dresses and a smocking class(or two) to take up my time! And I have a project or two of my own I'd like to work on. (like that is going to happen!) I am taking care of myself, though cause mom's don't have time to be sick!

Rob, you can give up cooking for a week, next week, not this week. I don't have time to take your place this week. :D

Ya'll have a good day. I'm going to go get started on mine as one of those dresses is hanging in my closet already.

Helen - What a great visual to think about. Thanks for that (actually, thanks to your dad - LOL). The school board meeting should be interesting, to say the least.

Rob - that's SO cool that you think you found a church! I pray that all goes beyond well with the meeting with the pastor and that you can definately say that you're "home".

Well, we've got tired teens and DH - they were out at the worship concert until about 2 AM and my daughter's friend's father came at 9 AM to pick her up so they all got up after just 7 hours - poor children - I wonder if they'll make it through the day. ;)

I'm done with PT for today and now it's on to homeschooling (light since everyone else is off today) and some laundry. We're doing leftovers for dinner because we have just way too many and I don't want to have to throw any out.

Brent is up and his temp is down, but his throat just keeps getting worse. It hurts very badly when he swallows.

His temp bounced back and forth yesterday from 97º to 102º, all day, so we shall see.

I can't get into see the doctor today - he is booked full. The only appointment I could get is with a nurse practitioner at 6:00 tonight. I am taking it so Brent can be tested for Strep.

I just got a call to sub on the corner this afternoon from a woman whose two boys have sore throats and fluxuating temps. She is taking them to the doctors today too. She thinks it's Strep.

If it is, I want to get immunized if it's not too late. I do NOT need a bad case of Strep! I had it once, as an adult, and thought I would die...

Time for more ice cold Sprite for the sick boy...

At least you are getting to see the nurse practitioner today. I just now got through to our doc and Jenna has an appointment for tomorrow at 11:45, with a doc we don't usually see.

The other two have decided that they are still alive! PTL! Chris is working on the two projects that somehow got missed in the last couple of weeks while he was suffering from gunk and migraines. I've decided that maybe he just has a cold. Claritin and Robitussin CF have made a big difference in how he feels today. He's been out spray painting the poster board for these projects(his solution to not being able to find "cool" colors ready made.)

Cassie finally rolled out of bed ready to go to the mall, , not that I plan on taking her. She's busy on the phone talking to her friends. Even before they all got puny, I decreed this to be a kid free weekend. (all part of taking care of myself. ;) ) She is now complaining about how mean I am, in front of me no less.

Sue,,Not playing the role of medical doctor, but we always used some vinegar in pan on stovetop and gently inhaling the steam to resolve a sore throat problem. Always worked for us. Do, however, be careful with the inhaling cos too much at once can cause one to faint..........

    Cheers,

    Jim

PS, Vinegar was among the first medicines used in ancient times, and even mentioned in scripture as such.

Thanks, Jim, but I'm more worried about his fever than the sore throat. He tends to seize if his temp gets too high.

Sue, try alternating tylenol and advil every two hours to keep that fever down(makes for four hours between any two doses of the same med). Febrile seizures are scarey! Jenna used to hallucinate when her fever went above 102 and that is what the docs recommended for her.

Well, we have one of Chris' projects done and have made good progress toward the second. We are waiting on the paint to dry and one of my uncles to wake up so I can find out some birthdays and death days of my dad's parents. (family tree project) Of course, this project was assigned just when my parents are in Florida. Neither set of my grandparents celebrated birthdays and Dad couldn't tell me off the top of his head. Said his mother used to tell them that it was none of their business how old they were getting! Sounds just like I remember her. She had her own ideas and stuck with them.

I have to call one of my aunts and find the same info about Mother's parents. I hope I don't scare her to death. Us cousins almost never call each other's parents unless something is wrong. Matter of fact, when we do call we have to identify who's kid we are because there are so many of us.(well over 60)

Hey cuz, I thought we wasn't hillbillies cause we was born in the north!

LOL on the cousins calling. I only know where a very few of my cousins have ended up. There's just too many to keep up with and a good many of them either live in other parts of the state or in other states! Neither my mother's or my father's families were particularly close when we were growing up. As far as I know, you and I might actually be cousins. I have relatives in Holland, Grand Rapids and Prudenville(where is Prudenville, anyway? :D ) Have an aunt in Pontiac. Have some great aunts and second cousins that I barely know exist (may have met them twice in my life) in Detroit/Royal Oak. Hopefully, somewhere this is all written down.

I did frighten my aunt a bit. Bless her heart, I think she had forgotten where my folks have gone and I know she didn't remember right off who I was. Unfortunately, she didn't have the information I needed either, so I relied on my own memory as to when my grandparents died and her memory as to how old they were and extrapolated the year of their births.

Now, I need to head to the sewing machine. Chris is studying for a test he missed in Social studies.

Sue, I hope Brent does NOT have strep and that you don't spend four hours waiting to find out!
