LOL Cuz!!! The last time we were in Kentucky was for my Wife's Grandfather's funeral. He too was burried on the side of a mountain. I was one of the pallbears and the Funeral Director asked me if I had any tennis shoes. I though it was a funny question, but answered yes. he told me to wear dress shoes for the funeral but bring the tennis shoes with me to the service.

Being naturally curious I asked why. The Director told me that the burial was going to be on the side of a mountain, it was supposed to be raining, and with the pine needles on the ground the footing was going to be slick. It did rain, and yes it was slick. In thirty years in the business I've forgotten how many caskets I've carried, but I was scared to death carrying that one. We made it but I definitely wouldn't do it again. When I was talking to the Director after the interment he laughed out loud. Told me I should try carrying a casket up the side of a snow/ice covered mountian. No thanks, I've done enough of that in the "flatlands" of Michigan. I may be crazy...but I'm not stupid.

BTW Cuz, the little town the service was in didn't have a McDonalds either, but the next big town down the mountian had all the fast food joints you would find in Michigan...and then some we don't have.

I did enjoy the casual "laid back' atmosphere of the area though. The Service at the church was sincere and heartfelt, the people were all friendly and helpful, and they treated us "Northerners" like we'd lived there all our lives. Good people, lovely area.

Did get some strange looks at my HCSB at church on sunday when we were there and at the "special services" that were held on the two nights of the visitation. I forgot I was in "God's Country" and probably should have brought a KJV. I have both so it wouldn't have been a problem, I just use the HCSB more.

    Happy New Years all!
I brought in some bananas and some cinnamon rolls for breakfast. There is also some juice in the refigerator. I hope everyone had a good holiday. I had a very good Christmas and am going to have a good new years day. My parents take all of us shopping on New Years for our Christmas presents. They buy the grandkids presents on Christmas and then buy all the grown kids clothes or whatever is needed on New Years. That doesn't put such a budget crunch on them buying all the christmas at once. A friend who is like a brother to us and his wife had their baby day before yesterday. He is very healthy and his mom is doing good as well. He has three big half sisters and is going to be the only child that his parents probably have together. I had better go, I need to get ready to go to the mall. Y'all stay safe and have a blessed new year.

Oh yum!! Thanks for the cinnamon rolls! They're yummy!!

Well, we're ALL home today. DD16 is home from her retreat with tons of stories and lots of memories (some good but some bad). I've also fallen in love more with her "boy" (not boyfriend yet because they're still getting to know each other and Daddy says they need to wait until they know each other better). He did some things on the retreat that we've heard about that make me think he's just about perfect - including bringing chocolate ice cream and whipped cream to two girls who were very upset about something and talking it out. He knew what would help. What a great guy!!

Today will find me doing some laundry and taking DD16 out to get a new cell phone since she burned through the last one. :) But she's paying for it so I don't mind. I am supposed to ride today but I think the rain that turned to ice and snow yesterday, and the 15 degree temps will curtail that. Conditions are just not good.

Hey ann: Sounds like a good kid to me. Any man who will give girls chocolate ice cream and let them talk isn't bad!
I brought in some bacon, eggs and oatmeal with homemade rolls and jelly. Y'all enjoy.
I get to clean the car out today and go get new tires. I had a blow out last night on my way from my house to my parents house and one of my other tires keeps loosing air so I have decided to replace it. I am on the road to much to have problems with my tires. One of the two days I can sleep in a little and wouldn't you know it. I am up and going-why can't I do this doing the week when I need to get up!
I am gonna grab a Dr. Pepper and go. I have too much to do to stay here all day.

    Good Morning Everybody,

Thanks for the breakfast, it sounds great.

Not too much going around here. We kept Cayden for a couple of days. Sure is amazing how one seven-month old can turn a household on it's ear though.

Today is cold but sunny, but by tomorrow we're supposed to have some more ice. I don't mind ice really, as long as it's rolling around in a glass of Diet Mt. Dew that is.

A few minor errands today and we can continue to recover from Cayden.

TLB - You barely recovered from the LAST baby before this one came along. Your house is beyond hopping. :)

Yesterday DH, the littles and I went to the city and had a great time. We went to the Museum of Natural History, Rockefeller Center then out to eat. Oh! And as we passed the American Girl store, my 6 year old started begging to go - and she finally got me with this one (well, not really, we were heading there already to surprise her but still...) "Mommy - if you let me go there, I will love you more than ANYONE has ever loved you before!!!" LOL - How can you turn THAT down??

Unfortunately I came home with a massive migraine - one of the top 10 I've ever had. So I went to bed early with some Imitrex. I still have a slight headache today but I'm drinking some Gatorade and I'll have a steak for dinner. That with some Excedrine Migraine, and I should be set.

I wish I could leave you all some steak but it's just too expensive. I even wait to do this meal for when the girls (the teens) are both working. LOL But it's Pioneer Woman's rib-eye steak. Probably one of the best steak recipes I've ever had. YUMMO!!

I am HORRIBLE at making steak! Most people don't even bother to be nice about it when I try. I don't get it...most of the time people melt over what I cook, but I just can't get that one down. It's tough, it's chewy, and it tastes like it came out the back of the cow instead of the side. It's like magic...I can turn a $20 cut of beef into one that tastes like it cost $1.99 and sat in the clearance stuff for a week first.

HELP! Where is that recipe? Do you have any more?

What a day already! I'm sitting here, eating a honey butter bun and taking a breather.

I went back to homeschooling today. I was a bit nervous about it, but it really was needful. We did fine, so, that's one day behind us.

I feel like an idiot to ask, but is anyone waiting for a PM response from me, because I'm almost sure I'm doing something wrong. If I am, I'd like to figure it out. Thanks.

The rest of the day should be laid back. I just have to do some laundry, keep the fires going, and fix supper. The kids are already finished with chores, except music practice. I'm hoping for a quiet afternoon----as quiet as it gets with 5 kiddos.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the new year!

    Good Morning Everybody,

CONGRATULATIONS Tanya! She sure is a cutie.

Thanks for the recipe Ann. This is one dish I'm definitely going to try. Browsing through her other recipes makes my mouth water. So much good food...so little time.

Welcome to our little corner of the BB universe Spinach! Please forgive the late welcome.

Don't feel bad Gina. Just remember and appreciate the many other dishes that you make so well. If steak isn't your best dish, then concentrate on the ones that that are.

Now that I got congress [Brenda] to approve an Economic Stimulus Package, it's time to let it trickle down to Walmart. Yes, it's time to go grocery shopping again. Seems like I just get it done and a well-meaning sister from the Long Island area posts a recipe that I just have to try, so I have to go shopping again. Thanks again Sis.

Our Ice Storm decided to go north of us this morning, so we're enjoying the sunshine before the next snow system moves in tonight, We've got snow showers forecast for the rest of the week.

Still no progress in finding either a new house or a new church home.

    Time to hit the road.

I have a lot of family in MI, friend of God. They've told me the weather tales. I guess that goes with the lake effect, eh?

Also, a lot of my family have a hard time finding a church also. I personally know a few, but a lot of the ones I know are legalistic.

We live in South-Central Michigan so our snow is just barely from the lake effect.

The cold in Michigan isn't bad once you're used to it. I'm born and raised in Michigan so I'm used to it [I just like to complain one in awhile that's all.]

Been through the legalistic type of churches, that's why we're still looking.

I was born and mostly raised there. I hated the weather! I guess it prepared me for this weather, as we are on the same parallel as Detroit.

I understand your pain wrt to church searching. My Mom has been looking for a few years (though not actively these days). She lives in the thumb.

Oh - Any time. :) It really IS yummy although a bit pricey to feed 6 of us so we only do it when the girls are working so it's just DH and I and the two littles. I can get away with two smallish steaks then.

Well, today is back to reality. We had a great break from everything but today we're starting back to homeschooling. We got a late start thanks to me having a migraine and sleeping in until 9:30. I've got things around the homestead to do and the homeschooling. I have pulled pork in the crockpot so I can go riding later today and not worry about dinner. I LOVE when I plan ahead. :)

Catch ya'll later! Left some fruit salad in the fridge for you all!

I'm finished with homeschool for the day and attempting to warm my feet by the fire. It's snowing. Blech. It sure is pretty, but it keeps me indoors.

Today promises to be lively, full of laundry washing and toilet scrubbing. But hey, at least we're not still using the outhouse. I'll gladly wash a toilet over that anyday!

For supper tonight, biscuits and gravy! YUM!

FINISHED with homeschooling? We're just getting started! :)

Well, in a few minutes, I'm running out with my bunny for his follow-up visit to the vet. I brought him in last week because he wasn't feeling well and it turns out he had a sinus infection and double ear infection. SIGH - my little 2 lb. bunny cost me $175 last week! yikes!! Fortunately he's been really good about taking the medication - as long as I give him a small piece of a Dorito first, rub the pill on a Dorito then give him another small piece afterwards. LOL He's not so dumb! :)

Other than that, it's just cleaning and homeschooling around here. My life is so boring! Oh - except the stupid drama that is going on with my 16 year old and her friends. But her "boyfriend" (I have it in quotes because he's not really her boyfriend yet since DH said that they need to wait a little bit - but they WILL be dating soon) and she are doing a great job of dealing with it in a mature, godly way. It's just the other idiot kids who are not. :(

    Good Morning Everyone!

Yes Cuz, I know its afternoon where you are, but I still have 25 minutes left of morning and since I haven't accomplished nearly enough today, I'm going to enjoy them!

Today is my kids first day back to school and I suppose that is why my house is a wreck but I'm still on the computer.

Normal going ons here though. Just wanted to stop in and say hello.

I'm way too tired today! I'm turning on a science movie for the kids and taking a nap. 5 kids, taking care of 2 houses (ours--under repair--and our friend's while he is in the States), animals, chores, snow, chopping wood, ministry, lack of sleep, etc. I'm just worn out!
