I went through the "if onlies" with both my parents and Shawna. I know how discouraging it can be... Sometimes you just have to 'circumvent' the red tape.

They wouldn't give my mother anything because she owned the two-room house, that had been HER grandmothers, and my mother had lived in for almost 80 years, so she sold it to me for $1.00.

She worked until she was in her seventies (private nursing care) and paid into SS all that time, but it sure was a different story when SHE needed to USE some of it!

It is 39º, raining and very windy right now. Rain changing to snow this morning with an accumulation of 2-4 inches. Snow ending tonight AFTER 1-3 inches of additional snow and a low of 20º.

Isn't it going to be fun delivering papers at 4:00 on Thanksgiving morning?!?

Thank God for Canada's socialism. We have medical care, two pension funds and disability funds regardless of age with a doctor's certification. It takes up to three months to qualify for the disability, but it is paid back to when the application was made. The pensions, Canada Pension and Social Security comes at age 65.

We never fear losing our homes because we become either disabled or old.

Sorry that you have such a difficult time, Dr. Bob. It must be frustrating.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Good Morning All! Morning Mama!

Dr. Bob - I went in with one leg gone and still got denied twice! Now I receive around $500 a month and 1/2 is taken out automatically for child support. Another $50 is taken out automatically for an oversight on their part for an accidental overpayment. So all in truth I get around a $200 check a month. Supplemental Security income gets me around $100 a month. But I qualify for Medical Assistance which I routinely have to prove I absolutely NEEDED these things. I got a denial letter in the mail for a weeks worth of antibiotics because there wasn't SUFFICIENT evidence I needed them. My guess is since the DR ordered them I musta needed them!

Well, the pot is stainless steel. Stainless....what a joke. No I didn't get all the black off but close. I am wearing gloves and and old medical gown to clean it next time. LOL

All the food is in the fridge and ready to go. Only thing left is the turkey and the taters. I am ready to go. MMMMMM the whole house smells like pumkin and apple pie!

    Good morning Shawna and all:

Shawna: Have fun cooking your turkey outside in the SNOW! [IMG]

I worked the first 20 minutes at the corner in the rain and the last 20 minutes in the sleet. It will be turning to SNOW before noon/2-5 inches!

I got soaked. Even my sweatpants, because the wind is blowing so hard. Wet gloves from holding the umbrella and wet shoes and socks from 'trying' to jump over the puddle in front of 'my' curb and not making it most of the time!

Well, I'm off to bake pies, and boil a chicken to debone for the noodles, and put all my other dishes 'together' so all I have to do is bake them tommorrow.

    HAGD!

    Happy baking!

Well I'm not getting much done today! We're back under a tornado watch. One was sighted in our town an hour ago so the sirens went off and I took the kids to the rec room in the basement. It's a wonderful room. Very bright and has a t.v. with lots of kids DVD's. I just came up to see the update and we'll be under a watch until at least 2:00. The thunderstorms with 60 + MPH winds seems to have passed. No trees down that I can tell.

The mom of the 20 month old was driving from a town about 13 miles from me to bring him so she could drive BACK to have her hair cut. She decided to just take him with her. I WILL have him 3 days next week and she forgot my check yesterday so won't be paid until Monday.

All of the trouble with getting benefits when you need them is partly due, I think, to the great victories we have won with the Republican mindset. I guess that's why I'm really a pro-life, pro-family Democrat at heart. A rare bird these days. (But my husband will tell you I've been a rare bird for some time!)

I'm thankful I have health insurance. And that if that fails, we have the VA. So as long as the government keeps taking care of veterans and their families, I'm OK.

And speaking of rare birds, I'm thankful I don't have to cook tomorrow! We always go to my in-laws, where my father-in-law, the former merchant marine cook and caterer does the honors. There'll be 22 for dinner, I'm told. But I should be greeted with the smell of apple pie when I get home from work, which my daughter is baking for the feast.

Anyone have a special Thanksgiving eve service tonight? I have no idea what our new pastor has in mind, but the secretary just called to ask me if he can borrow the prop fireplace. A play of some sort? Who knows! The best part of tonight's service is that I don't have any responsibility but to attend.

Our City Wide Thanksgiving Service was Sunday Night, Debby. It's probably a good thing. We're having awful weather today! No one would go out.

The mom of the brother and sister is getting off early today so she'll be here by 4:00 at the latest. Maybe I can get some stuff done afterall IF I don't have to go back downstairs. LOL. The kids are still playing down there. Board Games.

Boy Howdy. 40F and beautiful fall day here in Casper. Snow up on the mountain, but not enough on our ski runs to open yet.

I have a wedding to perform this afternoon. Kids (both in 30's) will surprise familly tomorrow with news that they finally got married. They have talked with me a couple times in the past two years, but we all agreed it just wasn't right.

Today it is (I pray). And hobbled down the steps to the basement to get the turkey roasting pan out. Tonight I will prepare everything and then only have to pop stuff in the oven for a 1 pm T'giving day feast.

If I cook, wife cleans (always been our policy) so that will free up time for football.

Hope the boys come today and rake/power mow and cut down some branches. Our last leaves (elms don't drop until Nov) are pretty much down and we have a big ominous branch that needs to come down. Some church boys have a chain saw and lawn stuff and work cheap.

I'll give them a taste of my cranberries as a "tip".

I'd love to have snow! We had a tornado in our town today but don't think it touched down. The tornado watch was just lifted at 2:00. STORM... boy did it storm!

Dr. Bob, maybe I should take up football watching so I don't have to do all the work. ;) Honestly, Jim and Jon will both help.

Sue, who/what are Rufus and Dufus? They look like stone prairie dogs to me.

Rufus and Dufus are my 'guard bears'. One holds a sign that says, "Wipe yer paws" and the other holds a sign that says, "Hugs-5 cents".

Here is a pic of what it looked like outside, just before we did papers, and it got WORSE! We were both soaked and frozen when we finished. It took us three hours to wade through all the mounds of snow. It is STILL snowing! And we get to do it all over again at 3 in the morning - except the temp is only going to be 19.

(The first house you see in the pic is catty-cornered across the street from me. My Grandfather built it in the mid-late 1800's)

We saw at least three trees down as a result of the heavy snow. One fell right on top of a house. Hubby called CILCO because he thinks if we have any more wind, a large tree limb is going to break our power line. Also saw a lot of fender benders... It is really bad out.

We are pooped and going to bed.

    Pleasant dreams all!

Nick loves Brent's snow! We'd LOVE some snow! We had windows opened today when it wasn't storming too badly and it's still 60° right now with tomorrow night going down to the high 20's. I hope tomorrow's paper delivery isn't too bad!

Well I shouldn't have any kids until Monday but I bet the one mom brings her daughter's on Friday. She isn't working that day but doesn't cope well... It sure would be nice to have a long family weekend! We've got Extended Session on Sunday with the 4 year olds so that'll be 9:30 - 12:30 but we only have to do that every four months. [IMG] I'm going to take in a bag of cotton balls for a snowball fight. That's great fun but noisy! LOL

    Suwei loves Brent's snow too!

never lived through snow before. The only time i touched snow was back in '88 for maybe 15 minutes on a Swiss mountain. Would love to go through a snowy winter sometime.... Well, in the Lord's time. [IMG]

Oh, Sue, that is so beautiful! It was 72 here around lunch time and now it has dropped to 47. And its very windy. I havent watched any news but I small a storm a-brewin'.

had a great day today. We took the girls to Wal-mart for a picture for Christmas cards. I wish I knew how to post pic on here like SUE. (Arent the older ones supposed to teach the younger ones [IMG] ?) They were dressed alike, and EVERY time we got to Walmart with them dressed alike, people ask if they are twins. Today we were only asked 6 times, and the photographer assumed they were too. We didnt tell her any different, because she was talking to another employee about the "twins". But they are precious.
Then did a worship walk with the youth tonight. It was really neat. I love worshipping with kids. They usually arent stuck in the rut of tradition. Then we came home and had tacos for supper. Brought one of my choir members home with us. Now I am washing clothes to take to Mama's in the morning. We will be leaving after my Jazzercise class and staying til probably Saturday. And we are taking the bird, too. [IMG]
OK, I have rambled long enough. I am going back to my nightly cuppa decaf and my spoon of low carb peanut butter!
    Happy Thanksgiving everybody!!!

Our $45 turkey has about two hours left to cook.

Small crowd for dinner this year only 4 coming for 10 in all.

Expecting a big crowd for our Thanksgiving Dessert Tea tonight.

    Happy Thanksgiving

Roger, I remember you telling us about the Dessert Tea and what a success it was last year right after you'd joined! Can you believe it's been just over a year?

Turkeys were .33 cents a pound here for brand names and .27 for others. I got a 20lb. That's the largest I could find but it'll do fine for the 5 of us. I don't even have to put it in the oven until almost 10. [IMG] We eat at 2:00.

COLD here this morning. We didn't even have our heater on. Turned OFF. The wind chill is in the 20°'s and the temp is 35°. The house must be better insulated than I thought because it was NOT cold, just chilly in spots. [IMG] PTL! [IMG]

Tis the Season, so may I be one of the first to wish you all... Merry Christmas!

Hard to believe isn't it. I really look forward to that - I would miss it if we ever had to spend a Thanksgiving back in the States

I think I get to be the first to eat Thanksgiving dinner - we are eating at 9.00 EST. Anybody beating us to it?
