Calvin through Geneva magistrates. And before you start a defense regarding difference in times etc., just know I’ve thought about it for years but in the final I can’t support taking life because of religious differences.

What is the "15th century humanistic legal philosophy" you speak of?
What scripture do you look at that causes you to reject that vague philosophy which you have not established?

Does not invalidate the theology, but the application of it!

I have been watching this discussion and deciding where I should step in... For a long time I thought that the foreknowlege of God is determined by Sovereign Grace but I looked at it different as others also seem to see it as I do... But the foreknowledge how some interpret it is an attribute of God... A trait if you will of God!... Question were we predestined and elected on an attribute of God?... Or did the three and one Godhead in counsel, choose us individually because of the essence of God?... God's essence is LOVE!... A love so strong he sent the second person in the Godhead, his Son Jesus Christ to die for us... Btw I'm an Old Line Sovereign Grace Primitive Baptist, never been a Calvinist... Brother Glen:)

1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.

4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

4:9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

4:10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

4:11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

You have just changed the subject. Why?
Calvin's soteriology is not philosophical. His soteriology is observed scripture.
Therefore, it is incumbent upon you to present the exact teaching you have found, with quotation, that you reject as abiblical. So far, however, you have remained vague and seek to change subjects when you are pushed to give your specific reasoning for rejecting Calvin's soteriological observations.

I did not change the subject.

I agree completely with Calvinism except the influences a type of "Retributive Justice" (not retribution but the philosophy of justice) has been integrated.

I agree with the parts of Calvinism that is not dependent on that philosophy (whether all or none).

In other words, remove that philosophy or do not add that philosophy and I am a Calvinist.

Calvin derived his theology in regards to Sotierology from the scriptures themselves, correct?

The problem is though if we cut out the part that you do not like, we cut out the very heart of the gospel itself!

Jon, this is an extremely vague answer. Please identify the specific 15th Century documents that you are reacting against.

This is my understanding. However, JonC seems to be claiming the soteriology is philosophical and humanistic.
