Rev.G, I read The Hills Of Homicide and I liked it a lot,all of his books are worth reading but I like the old westerns the best. My father was not much of one and we were not christians. I started reading L'Amour when I was 10 years old( I'm 38 now ) and his books were where I learned about what it is to be a man. So I guess you can say I am very partial to Louis L'Amour.
One thing that I have noticed about those that are big fans of his is that they are generally very honest, straight forward and have a definite sense of right, wrong and honor. Just a thought.

I live in Wyoming. Go past the Virginian Hotel in Medicine Bow quite often. Love the rugged stillness and beauty of the West.

Enjoyed Zane Grey when I was 10-12 years old. Shoot 'em up, hang 'em high kinda action. Yippee ki-yi-yo, git along, little dogies.

When I got out of the first stages of puberty I got over my fantasy about cowboys. Now I wouldn't take time to read L'amore or Lonsome Dove or any western novellas.

Evidently, though, I'm missing something. From the high comments of friends here, think I will REthink my western fiction and pick up a book or two. May be a whole new genre of reading open for me. Thanks!

    Here are my favorites:
-How to really love your child of Ross Campbell
-The act of marriage of LaHaye
-I don´t remember the title but it is of John Rice...something like question and answers
-The life of Moody of A.P. Fitt
    -New age versions of Riplnger
-and reader´s digest (like the little stories especially because they are true stories)

I really like a lot of Christian fiction, and one book that I just recently finished and thoroughly enjoyed was Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. Have any of you read this? I REALLY liked it.

I am reading right now "Storm of Terror: A Hebron Mother's Diary" by June Leavitt. I am learning a lot from it and enjoying it quite a bit.

My father read Westerns and kept them on top of an old black cabinet in the hall where I couldn't reach them. I remember my delight as a boy when I was finally tall enough to climb on a chair and look at the pictures on the front of the books.

I have remained a western fan through the years, reading all of L'Amour's books and hundreds of others - Another great one is Elmer Kelton. I highly recommend his books.

    In no order:

A Man Called Peter: Catherine Marshall
True For You But Not For Me: Paul Copan
The Holiness Of God: R C Sproul
The Foundations Of Christian Doctrine: Kevin J Conner
    Frank Peretti's "Darkness" books
The Pursuit Of Holiness: Jerry Bridges
The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict (Evidence I & II): Josh McDowell
    John Maxwell's "Leadership" books
    No Compromise: Melody Green
    Answers: Keith Piper
Christ In The Passover: Ceil & Moishe Rosen
Concise Guide To Today's Religions: Josh McDowell & Don Stewart
Essential Truths Of The Christian Faith: R C Sproul

...and one that I can not find on shelf here at the moment, "Christ's Unveiling" by forgotten author...DOH!

I was going to put a disclaimer here that a listing above is by no means an endorsement of everything written in each book, but nahhhhh, we are mostly Baptists here so that is taken as read :D

AMEN to that Les Miserables (the real version) remains the only book, other than the Bible, that I've read more than once

A great secular book to read is "Blackhawk Down" by Mark Bowden. I like it better than the movie.

My favorite Christian books are Wally beebe's "The Second Man", any commentary by John Phillips, and "What The Bible Teaches" by Raymond Barber.
