Two days this week I have made the mistake of turning TV on for a few minutes before turning in.

The first day I get Mr Copeland talking about communion, "For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1 Cor 11:26), from this he launches into a "because of this you can be rich" speech.

Then the next time I get Mrs Meyer talking about a phone clairvoyant making million$ from false teaching....

    oy vay....

Against my better judgement, I've been hanging out at a forum that specializes in WoF theology.

Before being thrown out, I tried to engage them in threads on Benny Hinn.

It was shocking the lengths they would go to to defend him.

I, and several others, presented evidence that he was a false teacher.

    They said he was "annointed".

We showed that he was a false prophet.

They said he was "operating in the supernatural" (whatever that means).

We showed that he had a history of lying.

    They said, "Well, nobody's perfect".

We showed that he had engaged in necromancy.

They said that recieving visions and seeking the "annointing" of the dead wasn't necromancy.

They called names, the lied, they threw temper tantrums.

Any time we brought up the Bible, they called us legalists and pharisees.

In all that time, it never occured to any of them to crack open a Bible.

This is exactly what the Bible is talking about when it talks about people being taken in by false teachers who tickle their ears.

I learned more about the state of the church and about myself in three or four days in that forum than I have in the last five years.

I'm more convinced than ever that we've got to study to show ourselves approved and be able to give an answer for the hope that lies within us.

((By the way, in case you were wondering why I was thrown out, I questioned the wisdom of having a sponsor called "My Father's House Online Mall" in light of Matthew 21.))

I was passing through TBN tonight and became transfixed.

"You don't know God like I know God." Well, that may be true. But in context, it stinks. Presumably, the audience is composed of believers.

Classic gnosticism. That's WoF. God has told me something he hasn't told you; listen to me.

I will omit the "barking like a dog."

Mike McK, Mr Hinn's followers get like that. I dared to "touch the Lord's annointed" on an IRC channel one night and was kick/banned for it.

The sites I refered to them that documented Mr Hinn's false prophecies, false teachings, false hair (sorry, I just had to throw that in) were quickly dismissed as having "the spirit of antichrist"....Anti-Benny = antichrist? hmmmm maybe he is "Benny Jehovah"?

    rsr--brother--where are you?

The only time I get to watch Benny and the boys is when I travel over to FBC, Jacksonville, FL for the annual pastor's conference--I try to go every year--they feed spiritual gunpowder there--anyway, while in the hotel I click on the tube--and there on TBN is Benny and the boys--Copeland, Dollar, Duplantis, Daddy Hagan, Little Richard, etc.--what a blowout!! I listen to them while I get ready to go to the FBC conferences--I told my wife one time she was with me there--we were ready and was waiting to go down to catch the commuter bus to take us to the church--"Come on, Honey! Lets go to Brother Jerry's church and hear some real preaching!" When we got back to the hotel--she turns on the WWF!!!!!!!

By the way--I have you and Brother Mike McK scheduled for your "Cat Scan" and MRI's---something is going on in your brain that maybe the demon of cat scannin' and MRI needs to be cast out---Last time I watched Benny boy--He encouraged a young lady who just got healed---nothing more than what a low dosage of children't aspirin could have taken care of---he encouraged her to (in that Benny accent--)"Go to doctor--get a cat scan--confirm what I just did here!"---wham--she's slain in the spirit--audience is squallin' and bawlin'---some of 'um laughin and praisin' and etc. MERCY!!!

    Your friend,
    Blackbird

Any fool can pronounce healing; only a Divine Lord can effect it.

I always remember a funeral I took for an old fellow. He was a curious chap. I talked about this old boy not quite making it to heaven yet. He was too busy at the gate inspecting the mechanics of it. The family knew this was their husband and father, and they laughed.

Another minister who was sharing the service, chided me for making the family laugh at a funeral. I said, anyone can make a family cry at a funeral. It takes the Lord to heal their sorrow and plant a smile inside.

I feel much the same about so-called "faith healing."

    Cheers,

    Jim

    Hey HRB,

It's an aberrational offshoot of the charismatic movement.

High on emotionalism and short on sound doctrine.
    Here's a brief overview.

    Word-Faith Movement
Also known as "Name-in-Claim-it," "Health and Wealth Gospel," "Positive Confession," "Word of Faith," etc.

Word-Faith teachers owe their ancestry to groups like Christian Science, Swedenborgianism, Theosophy, Science of Mind, and New Thought--not to classical Pentecostalism. It reveals that at their very core, Word-Faith teachings are corrupt. Their undeniable derivation is cultish, not Christian. The sad truth is that the gospel proclaimed by the Word-Faith movement is not the gospel of the New Testament. Word-Faith doctrine is a mongrel system, a blend of mysticism, dualism, and gnosticism that borrows generously from the teachings of the metaphysical cults. The Word-Faith movement may be the most dangerous false system that has grown out of the charismatic movement so far, because so many charismatics are unsure of the finality of Scripture
John MacArthur, Charismatic Chaos, p. 290

There are many perculiar ideas and practices in the Faith theology, but what merits it the label of heresy are the following: 1) its deistic view of God, who must dance to men's attempts to manipulate the spiritual laws of the universe; 2) its demonic view of Christ, who was filled with "the Satanic nature" and must be "born again in hell; 3) its gnostic view of revelation, which demands denial of the physical senses and classifies Christians by their willingness to do so; and 4) its metaphysical view of salvation, which deifies man and spiritualizes the atonement, locating it in hell rather than on the cross, thereby subverting the crucial biblical belief that it is Christ's physical death and shed blood, which alone atone for sin. All four of these heresies may be accounted for by Kenyon's syncretism of methaphysical thought with traditional biblical doctrine"
    D.R. McConnell, A Different Gospel

Just realised I hadn't emailed my "sits" comments from this thread to Mr Hinn again as I had planned to, so just did that.

I did say I would keep emailing him (his web site anyway) on the topic, however I think if nothing comes back this time I will try snail-mailing the Aussie office and see what happens.

I have heard of "barking" from others on the board whom I trust. On the Web I also have run across references to "animal noises" in the Vineyard movement, but I refrain from posting a link because I have no idea of their accuracy.

My only experience with the Vineyard movement is anecdotal, except in a local church where two former Vineyard members joined this church.

They caused so many problems, they had to be removed by law to settle the church down. This was a C&MA church and I never experienced these kind of problems in all my life, and hope to never again.

It is really bad when people in the Pentecostal movement complain about them and their emotional outbursts.

    Cheers,

    Jim

No, Sydney Australia. There is no Sidney that I am aware of.

It was a while ago and sadly I did not take a check-list with me. I do remember the gaggle of gigglers, and an indian or two on the warpath.
