Quite true. But that was then. This is now. Now it is totally corrupt. We should kick the headquarters out of New York. We can't even prosecute any of them who break our laws, even parking tickets, because of diplomatic immunity.

...and after Daschle realized the damage his remarks did to his credibility he tried to backtrack but too late politically he is a goner. Thank yo Tom for revealing your stupidity.

The property was donated by an American, David Rockefeller. It was not purchased.

If we could not legally kick them out, we could make them so uncomfortable they would want to leave voluntarily. [IMG]

Matt: We are quite used to a socialist party controlling government and setting up a means to equitably provide for all. Some of us even remember the days before NH when we had to beg doctors to treat us.

War did not put an end to Naziism or Communism. It merely halted hostilities for the moment. As a matter of fact, the end of the Second World War, gave Communism a foothold in all of Eastern Europe and did nothing to halt it.

Yes, not all anti-war people are leftists, peaceniks and whatever moniker one wishes to impose. I am a believer in the work of the UN and therefore oppose this assault on Iraq. Do you mean the USA is finally trying to right the wrong they did in bring Saddam to full power because Iran was the enemy of the day? It is strange how the enemy changes almost overnight. When will we weep for the millions who die daily in the world just from hunger alone? What about the many, many children in the USA who go to bed hungry each night? When will we feed them?

When will we consider administering equal justice in the judicial systems? How many have been executed and then found innocent by DNA evidence after the fact...in England, Canada and the USA.....Well, England and Canada solved that problem.

There are many wars yet to be fought and none of them include weapons that kill and the needless slaughter of innocent people. It just takes social responsibility.

What did war solve in Korea? In VietNam? They did create children who found no home in any country. The UN may not be the best solution in the world, but at least it is trying to provide an equitable solution, giving voice to many nations and not just one.

On diplomatic immunity. We all benefit from this. We may treat diplomats with decency, but it is not so in all countries, and this protects our diplomats in such countries.

Cheers, and God be with all our people serving overseas.

    Jim

I was also saying not just that not all anti-war protesters are leftists but also that I don't see anything wrong with being a Christian and left-wing.

So then, Matt, I take it you agree that it is okay to murder the unborn - for the right to choose abortion is a definitely left-wing agenda.

And to protest this war with Iraq means you agree with Saddams murderous regime and he should not be removed from power, even though thread after thread on here demonstrates he has brutalized his own people? [IMG]

No , the pro-choice position is not a left-wing stance - there are many members of the Conservative Party here who are pro-choice; I believe also your Mr Powell is pro-choice. Your comments are like saying that if you are right-wing, you are automatically in the thrall of big businesses who oppress the poor and poison the environment; similarly on your Saddam jibe I could retort that you're in favour of Mugabe's murderous regime as you're not calling for military intervention there.

There's Godliness and evil in both left and right and there should be Christians acting as salt and light in both

    Yours in Christ

In America, both the right and left are in the thrall of big business who oppress the poor - i.e., giving China Normal Trade Relations with the US was done by both Republicans (right) and Democrats (left), even though the left proclaims otherwise - when it comes to trade agreements, both sides have sold out for the almighty dollar. Just look at the voting records.

The left here has a great rhetoric though and most people choose to believe the rhetoric rather than seeking the truth; it's a delusion.

It was both parties who voted for NAFTA, both right and left.

It was former President Bill Clinton who allowed our national secrets and technology to be sold to the Chinese (for gain). And also the Chinese contributed to the Democratic National Committee -there was a big scandal about it with people serving time in prison as we speak.

Oh, and I haven't even gone into the Jesse Jackson/ Charles Taylor of Liberia - diamond, al-Qaeda, etc. deal that went on during the Clinton years which all boils down to Big Business.

Yet the left bashes Bush about Iraqi oil. OKAY. Let's just suppose that is true (which I don't believe). Forget about the humanitarian deals. Let's just accept the premise of the left.

At least Oil is a commodity that we Americans can use and that the Iraqi people will benefit from selling on the open market to boost their economy - once their sadistic dictator is gone.

And, it's the right, by the way - the Bush Administration who has ships going over to Iraq even as we speak with food for the Iraqi people.

It's those on the American right - the Christian Bible believing organizations - who are responsible for most of the humanitarian efforts at home and NGO throughout the world. The left wants the government to do it, for people to depend on the "state." The right backs away from government assistance and intervention, as a rule, because we believe in people learning to be self reliant, not becoming wards of the state.

From your posts, I would conclude you have REAL misconceptions about the REAL way it is in America and our political system over here.

Where do you get your information?

True. Unfortunately, I can't think of anyone on the left who acts as Christian salt & light on matters of morality or in light of God's Word.

Mr. Powell is clearly in the minority, being a Republican who is pro-abort.

The majority of those on the left are pro-aborts -the Democratic party here has made a woman's right to choose (murder) as part of their national platform. They even hold celebration parties on the anniversary of Roe v Wade. How evil is that? [IMG]

But where's the UN intervention? Why is the UK not calling for military intervention? Or the French? Or the Germans?

Or are you just bashing America?

Have you ever been to America?

Perhaps you've seen too many Hollywood movies. The way things are portrayed from Hollywood and the majority of media outlets in the United States are liberal oriented. If you really want news from the perspective of the right, if you are really interested, and not just wanting to bash America, here's some links: :(

BTW, I find it interesting so many from the UK come on here to the BB & bash America. I'm certainly glad not all the UK think like you guys. Praise God for Tony Blair and all the brave troops from the UK who are fighting for liberation of Iraq. And my prayers are with those families of Brits who died in the helicopter crash.

Here is an article which includes a left-wing peacenik that had his eyes opened:

    Lucky Break for Jordan
    By Arnaud de Borchgrave

AMMAN, Jordan, March 21 (UPI) -- An unintended coalition of U.S. air power and Baghdad taxi drivers kept a potential flood of Iraqi refugees away from the Jordanian border Friday. The U.N. refugee agency and the Jordanian government were expecting a quarter of million people to stream across the border. Jordan is already home for 400,000 Iraqi refugees from the first Gulf War.
U.S. fighter bombers took out the only gas station between Baghdad and the border, a distance of 600 kilometers. The one-camel village of Ramadi was also the only phone booth on the desert road and a Jordanian was killed by the explosion of the gas station while making a call to his parents in Amman to let them know he was on his way home.

A group of American anti-war demonstrators who came to Iraq with Japanese human shield volunteers made it across the border today with 14 hours of uncensored video, all shot without Iraqi government minders present. Kenneth Joseph, a young American pastor with the Assyrian Church of the East, told UPI the trip "had shocked me back to reality." Some of the Iraqis he interviewed on camera "told me they would commit suicide if American bombing didn't start. They were willing to see their homes demolished to gain their freedom from Saddam's bloody tyranny. They convinced me that Saddam was a monster the likes of which the world had not seen since Stalin and Hitler. He and his sons are sick sadists. Their tales of slow torture and killing made me ill, such as people put in a huge shredder for plastic products, feet first so they could hear their screams as bodies got chewed up from foot to head."

Thanks, Drew. That's from someone who craves the fresh breath of freedom. Something these war protestors can never understand. [IMG]

Sheeagle, if you care to start a thread on British politics, I will be more than happy to 'bash Britain' (for that, read 'be a critical voice about' Britain) too, as you put it. It's just that most, if not all, the threads here are about US politics so it is US politics I'm commenting on. If you want me to talk about UK politics, feel free; I can be even more critical about our Dear Leader than I can about Dubya.

As for your point about Clinton being in hoc to the corporations, well I agree, but two wrongs don't make a right; Clinton was in some respects the best Republican President you never had, hiding behind the facade of the Democrats.

My general point though still stands - I see nothing wrong with being a left-wing Christian - indeed, I see Christianity and social democracy of the European type going hand in hand. You only have to look at the common thread in the OT prophetic critique (echoed in the NT in particular in Luke's Gospel and James'Letter) of justice for the poor and oppressed, the nation not to neglect the widows and orphans, and criticism (far more violent I might add than anything I've posted here) of national leaders who deviate from God's standards of justice and integrity. I see the role of the church and individual Christians to continue that prophetic critique of our leaders and countries, and not to be guided by blind loyalty exemplified by phrases such as "He's our President so we must respect and support him" (imagine if say Jeremiah had taken that stance with regard to Zedekiah!). IN any event, that sounds way too close to the Catholic idea of repecting the office of the Pope even if the individual holding that office is corrupt - that was one of the many reasons why I left the RCC all those years ago and I have no desire to see it reproduced on a Baptist board!

    Yours in Christ

It is even more interesting that many take any comparitive analysis or critism as 'bashing America' in my opinion

Your little ditty on "Bomb Iraq", sung to the tune of "If your happy and you know it", is all some of us needed to see. You are an America basher.

that was an attempt an humour Curtis - but if labeling me makes it easier for you to dismiss my views then you are welcome to.

Do you think that critism of American foreign policy is the same as critism of the nation of America?

Matt, I don't care to "bash Britain" as you put it. Especially with leadership of the caliber of Tony Blair. He is a hero, a profile in courage.

As far as I'm concerned, in the light of Biblical prophecy, the end line up will be:

Israel, US, Great Britain, Canada, Australia - maybe a couple more countries like Japan - (for reasons I won't go into here)

    vs

Russia, all the Arab countries, European Union, UN, etc.

And Jesus Christ will come back with the Hosts of Heaven (and raptured saints) for the Big Battle at Megiddo, as prophesied.

"Bash" was your word, not mine. As I've indicated, I don't see it that way. I'm afraid the rest of your post was a bit too way out for me to comment on

that is interesting - so when you critise Clinton's foreign policy decisions you are 'bashing America'?
