Good morning, good folks. The day here is bright, but coolish. Still, glad to be alive and presented another day of opportunity.

A special tribute to mother's on this day that North America calls Mother's Day. This is a day when all the mother's get religion and pack the churches.....I may have to fight for pew space. I wonder why the same thing doesn't happen next month on Father's Day?

    Cheers to all,

    Jim

    Peaseporridge hot, peaseporridge cold,
    Peaseporridge in the pot,
    Nine days old.

How well I remember porridge, and still enjoy it in winter months. And, indeed, it is oatmeal. Whilst in boarding school, we didn't always have milk, so the cook added extra water to make it liquid. No sugar, no additions; porridge was it. Eat is quickly, or it went all lumpy.

    Cheers,

    Jim

You have to try grits in NC Sheila.

Hot, loads of butter, and plenty of black pepper! Cut up your fried egg (do you eat eggs?) and stir up all together and sop it all up with a old fashioned homemade southern buttermilk biscuit (kind of like a scone without sugar or fruit)

broJim~You prolly won't believe this, but I was going to write that very same rhyme...

Sop? broRP~I didn't know you knew that word! My big ol'fat cathead biscuits really do "sop" very well!

Hiya Bri(Mel)...I'm coming to live on yo'end of da bog-I'm already tired of spring/summer & I'm ready for Fall; is it Fall over there? BTW, I use something called "golden syrup" too.

    Good morning, dear Sheila. [IMG]

    Granny,

I am originally from Alabama so "sop" is a part of my vocabulary.

My darling wife makes what she calls "angel biscuits" cause they are so light and fluffy they'd float away if you don't put sumpin on 'em to weigh 'em down !

Almost put a picture on here, but remembered it was a no graphicx thread ;) .

    Hello everyone.

An interesting conversation. [IMG] I will look forward to grits when in NC.

Roger, yes, I do eat eggs sometimes.
Jim, I had forgotten all about that verse. I spose it is not one that is so well known these days.

I actually slept this afternoon. I find it easier to sleep in the daytime if I sleep at all. Maybe that means I won't get jetlag in the U.S.

I hope you are all having a great day.

    Sheila

The day started with heavy rain.

It ended with clearing skies - and much warmer.

I still eat oatmeal on occasion. I used to eat it with brown sugar - now with aspertame. Isn't quite the same - but a warm bowl tastes ever so good from time to time.

I love oatmeal, cream of wheat, Ralston, & Malt-o-Meal. My quirk is I have to see the butter sitting on top before I'll eat it! [IMG]

We sometimes have a bowl of porage in the evening. Rob adds cold milk to his and lots of brown sugar. I have only a teaspoon of brown sugar, somteimes honey.
Well, I am in uni all day today. Have had a very bad night. I will try and look in later this evening. I hope you all have a good day,

    Blessings

I have porridge all winter either with a little milk or with a sugar-free syrup. My main cereal, however, is diabetic association approved Cheerios.

I am one of those weirdos who is not a big fan of eating. I used to skip meals for anything else, but stick to a regimen of 6 meals, small, every day.

    Cheers,

    Jim

We've been considering keeping bees; well, son'n'law has. He gathered those down at the water meter of neighbour's house, and will come get these that's lived in my wall for years-maybe.

It's exciting thinking of having our own fresh honey...only one problem...they told me yesterday what honey is made from. Bee's vomit.

Recently - General Mills had a give-away of NASCAR hot-wheels. I bought about 14 boxes of Cheerios trying to get all ten different cars.

I'll be eathing Cheerios for the rest of this year - before I have to buy any more!

Did you put the extras in the freezer? I put everything there, including potato chips! They'll keep as fresh as the day you bought them.

Now, in Canada they did the sensible thing; one, they offered cd's for children. Two, they were visible on the outside of package so we could see what we are getting free.

The closest we came to racing cars is the Tonka Raceway.

    Cheers,

Jim, forced to have cheerios for a snack at night

We used to buy milk on sale - and freeze it - when the children were little - and we were poor.

But now the children are all grown up - but we are still poor!

    Sheila,

I have six of the ten cars that were made - the rest are duplicates.

    Good thing I like Cheerios!

Jan ordered some bread (gluton free) some weeks ago from a natural food store in Rochester (70 miles from home!). She was told that the order would be in in 7 to 10 working days. She called after the appropriate amount of time - she was told is would take up to a month to get the bread. The next time we were in the store - she talked to a manager. A day or two later - she got a call saying they couldn't get the bread any more. Last Thursday - we were in the store and they had three loaves - which she took - talked to a manager again - got another call - more run-around.

Yesterday - they called and said her order was in. It sounded as if they expected her to drop whatever she was doing - drive the 70 miles - and pick up the bread.

Jim - this product (one of the few gluton free breads that taste good) is manufactured in Canada!

Guess what I'm doing tonight after work. Driving 70 miles both ways to pick up bread that costs about $5.50 a loaf. At 37.5 cents a mile - I'm adding another $4.37 per loaf in transportation costs!
